Yes, walking is a great form of exercise for those 50 and over. That's because, as simple as it is, walking is the most foundational, universal workout that practically anyone can do. I walk everyday!

However, in my opinion, the 'best' form of cardio is a HIIT (high intensity interval training) style workout that combines short bursts of cardio and strength mixed with low intensity recovery periods.

Don't let the name scare you! High intensity does not have to mean burpees. It can mean just riding faster on a stationary bike followed by some shoulder presses for example.

Research has shown that a HIIT style workout increases metabolism after exercise more than speed walking or weight training alone.

Let's HIIT it and then go for a walk!
