The most powerful mantra is concentrating in the heart space and repeat with devotion "Lord Jesus have mercy on me" The ego doesn't want to say and even more to feel this sentence. The ego thinks "Why to ask for mercy? I haven't done anything bad to ask for mercy". That's why is a remedy for ego. As you repeat this in your heart you slowly purify your heart from egoistic desires and finally God becomes the center of mind's attention. But one can not walk this path with guidance from someone who has walked the path before him and knows all ego traps along the way.
