After 10 straight days of sleeping only 4 hours a night, I developed night terrors. On the eleventh day, I would wake up either screaming or shaking just as my body realized it was asleep. It's been a month now, with most nights giving me 6 to 7 hours of sleep. I've been extremely stressed, depressed, and anxious. I've missed countless workdays, eventually quit, and spent the entire day in bed at least five times in the last month. I feel depersonalized, lost; I have sudden memory lapses and lose track of time—I don't even know what day it is.

I'm writing this to say: please never think it's a good idea to sleep less and work more. If you think you're saving time, you're wrong. I've become seriously mentally ill, unable to control my thoughts, with multiple suicidal thoughts each day or even each second sometimes, suddenly. I understand now that mental illness is real. I used to think depressed people were simply undisciplined, but I get it now. Seriously, do not sacrifice your sleep. I've lost far more time than I thought I was saving.
