3 young girls killed in condo fire reported at SW Houston complex

Since moving here more than a decade and a half ago I've noticed that these fires almost always seem to happen at older apartment complexes, particularly those built in the 80s and earlier. Aside from their age, one common thread I see is that most of these buildings do not have sprinkler systems or other fire-control measures installed, being built before they were made a requirement for new construction. Given that this keeps happening, perhaps it's time for the city and the county to step in and require that these apartments be updated to meet the same fire-safety standards set for new construction. It's a common-sense policy that should've been implemented decades ago. More needs to be done to prevent these tragedies from occurring in the first place.

Something like this happened in another town in my State to a little girl on her first week of Kindergarten in mid to late 2000's. She also died in her fire. 😢😢😢😢😢.

Comments should be disabled when covering these tragic stories, everyone is entitled to their opinion but people tend to make comments in very poor taste on the internet. If someone has something relevant to say they can go through the proper channels to communicate that.
