'They found her!' 6-year-old girl survives 73 hours alone in BC’s wilderness

Parents Gail Skin and James Schweder were finally able to get some sleep on Sunday night after their daughter was found safe.

Oaklynn Schweder, six, went missing from the Burns Lake area in North Central B.C. around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

She was found on Sunday evening in a previously searched forested area between her residence and Skin Tyee band office.

Skin said when they received the phone call that Oaklynn was found, she jumped into the air screaming, "They found her! They f***ing found her!"

Oaklynn is non-verbal but she can mimic words and investigators think she wandered off and then couldn't find her way back.

i am crying like a kid right now, bieng a dad of 9 years old girl i can imagine how hard it would be for the parents every single moment and more than three days is very hard and long wait to search the loved one, last week my daughter was missed from house and me and my wife got super crazy only in one hour search later, we found her safely. Thank God they found her safe and sound too, very very happy for them

There is a video of Oaklynn arriving to hospital with many many people there waiting to do ceremony songs. Oaklynns mother also called for a moment of silence in support for the family of the other missing boy from Manitoba who was found dead. She hurts for them. She asks to keep his family in their prayers and heart.

A very happy day for her and her loved ones. If you live in a wild part of Canada, sow in a pin and piece of tin foil and matches to their jacket. Tell them where the pocket is and if they get lost the pin with water on a leaf will be a compass, the tin can be used as reflective device. And matches must be shown and used correctly. I was taught at a very early age to survive, I’m a brownie!!
