ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.

At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine or in person if you're in the Lexington, KY area. We find a lot of undiagnosed Pre-Diabetes or Insulin Resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like Pre-Diabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
This video covers part 2 of a science review article in the respected journal Cell Metabolism by Valter Longo and Satchin Panda. Thank you thank you. As a 62 yr oldRN I love your evidence based approach and your willingness to call out the shortcomings of traditional medicine in its practical application. Have never been an early morning eater; always wanting to eat ( really hungry?)after dinner till bedtime. Since compressing my eating time from noon-1 pm and not snacking after dinner at 6 pm has helped. Working on my health the past year I have gone from low carb to int fasting to full Keto. Hba1c was 5.9 is now 5.1. Recent bariatric surgery has made eating small portions of lchf easy. Keto has broken my compulsion for carbs. 43 lb wt loss prior to surgery is now 65 lbs 6 weeks later. Am using every tool I can to be able to look forward to a healthy happy retirement. Thank you for being a guide for the public who is trying to make their way through a confusing and often contradicting field of medicine.

Very well done again doctor. A broad look, informative with "I-don't-knows" where appropriate. You provide an excellent starting point for further research.

As an aside I have been taking NAD+ (100mg, very recently increased to 200mg) and reservatrol (250mg, very recently increased to 1000mg) per day (90 days total time). Within the first couple of weeks at the lesser dose my skin became very soft and smooth and continues to get softer and smoother. I have no idea what that means for long term health. I am 77 with no health issues.

"Fasting is atractive because it works." I agree, Dr Brewer! I increased the fasting period from 18 hours / day to 7 days/ month. Feeling not safe for lack of more studies like from dr. Longo or YouTubers like Dr Brewer. Begining with lots of suplements and fasting now only water. Green tea (ECCG) in alternated days. Thanks for the support, dr. Brewer. Preventive medicine is complex, but very reasonable. And fasting ends the cravings for carbs.

Excellent as always! A new video by Dr (endocrinologist MD + MD) Sheila Cook on Low Carb Down Under has interesting information on pancreas function of Beta and Alpha cells and insulin glucagon. She works with type I diabetics. Her content seems to add another dimension to this complex set of issues.

@Ford Brewer, Doctor, the one thing that is missing from these fasting diets is the starting point of the individual. It is obvious if you are carrying your food storage around with you that with an above average BMI the experience of fasting is going to be very different from a slim-jim with a very low BMI. I don't find it too much of a problem to go on a 36hr fast but anything longer and then I have to dip into the fridge for a small amount of butter to keep going. As for FMD, that has been my norm., with 12-16hr from last meal to breakfast and only eating a light breakfast and lunch with dinner being the main meal, all without snacks. I 've found food-peer-pressure one of the most difficult problems as people take it very hard when you say, "no thank you", to their lovely and beautifully presented food and more often than not give in. Well, anyway, one thing, what are your thoughts on fermented foods: kimchi, natto, sauerkraut as prebiotics. Thank you Dr.Ford Brewer for all your hard work :-)

autophagy kicks in around 13 hours into fasting, maxes out at 48 hours.

Panda found lost of weight with same amount of calories by cutting feeding time down to as little as12 hours. He found more weight loss with benefit of no muscle loss down to 9 or 10. He feels it's partly due to taking advantage of peak enzyme production which then tapers throughout the day. Water during the fasting section does not effect the results but coffee would according to Dr. Rhonda Patrick.

Fung says IF will cure fatty liver. Which may be one the the biggest benefits if true based on your past videos. DC Berg says Keto causes fatty liver. Dr. Eric Westman was not sure on fasting, he said it may cause. He also says Keto does not cause fatty liver but carbs might, as carbs turn to fat with surplus and insulin. Dr. Berg show a page from book, and if you read it, is says when you fast, the adipose fat is sent to the liver causing a very fatty liver.

You and Jason Fung both have skin in the game! That's extreme important!

Sorry, I couldn't stay with these videos.
Too much underlining, a rambling commentary and nothing really new on Fung or Longo.
