People with no allergies have no idea what it's like. We're not just whiners, allergies cause horribly unpleasant reactions that makes us feel like shit. Imagine having to focus entirely on your breath to keep breathing under control. Or itching all the time and getting rashes from scratching it. It's terrible. Being at someone's house with a cat when you're allergic can be an extremely painful experience. It sucks because I love cats and really wish I could have one, or two.

I have a better thing for you. I recently started giving my cats this special Purina liveclear cat food and it reduced the allergen they produce by 50% or more. I also got some special liquid coat thing that helps prevent dander and neutralizes any of the allergen that appears. (The allergen is a specific protein then have in their saliva, which gets all over their body when they clean themselves). Ever since brushing them once a day, and the coat liquid once a week with the Purina liveclear food, I've had zero allergies without using allergy meds.

One thing for me is to also try not to touch my face at all before washing my hands after handling the animals.

Heads up: eucalyptus and most other essential oils are toxic to cats and most other pets and shouldn’t be diffused around them at all!! I’m not sure if you keep it away from them but just to make sure your babies (which u clearly love so much!!!💝) are safe🥺

You have helped me tremendously, thank you! My husband found two strayed kittens. Although we fell in love with them immediately my allergies got so bad that I feared we couldn't keep them 😔 I bought an air purifier for my room and from the first night I felt the difference. The thing that has helped the most is Flonase, amazing. The only difference is that I combine it with Zytec because Allegra didn't work for me. Thanks to your suggestions I can keep my kittens 🥰

I’m just finding this and I’m so happy! My boyfriend is super allergic to dogs and really triggers his asthma to the point where he can’t even comeover anymore! I’m going to show him this, thanks so much.😊

I developed a cat allergy when I was around 13. Had a couple cats my whole life. One of my cats was very old at that point, perhaps my body associated something very toxic in his saliva with the protein that causes the allergy. It was very bad for 9 years but it wasn’t so severe that I couldn’t take measures against it. About a year ago I started letting my cat that outlived the two original ones drink water from my cup, then I’d drink the water. I don’t recommend doing this but after doing it just a few times I noticed a lot of difference. The scratches I got from him would still swell and itch a ton but I was no longer having prolonged nasal allergy symptoms for a couple of days after being exposed too much. A few months ago I got a kitten, he’s crazy and has scratched me thousands of times. At some point the scratches just stopped swelling up, and I’ve never gotten an allergy attack from being around him. Maybe if I put my face in his fur it’d be a different story. All I notice now is that when he rubs his face on my face/neck I will get a tingling itchy sensation followed by a bit of redness, just because pores on those parts of my body are sensitive and are absorbing the saliva on his fur. I’m not sure why this kind of skin exposure is causing a reaction but his scratches don’t anymore, all I can say is the human body is inconceivably complex and the same goes for the way our immune systems function.

So what I’m saying is this is not a final solution but it’s just a bit of proof that if your allergies are bad but not extreme, exposure DOES work, it worked for me just by letting my cat drink from my water and getting scratched countless times; if you can afford it an allergist can systematically expose you to cat allergens so that they will be pretty much non-existent unless your cat sneezes directly into your eyes lol. Cats can live for 16, 20 years or more… you’ll spend more money buying medications, spend more time making sure your hands and fabrics are clean, and spend less time with your cat over all those years than you would if you just invest in immunotherapy

I can't breathe for about 5 days after being in the same room as a dog for about an hour... Have rashes, swelling, sneezing, itchy too but I don't even care about any of that, with dogs, cats and horses that I know of anyway. It's the not being able to breathe that I can't cope with. I have an inhaler that doesn't do anything at all. Over the top medicine doesn't work. In the UK I've asked my GP repeatedly what can I do only to be told that I should just stay away from animals. I stayed at my friend who has dogs's house once and the dogs weren't even in the house and I couldn't breathe and my attempts at breathing were so loud she took me to a and e once and they said my chest was the worst they'd ever heard in a non-smoker however the only thing they could offer was the inhaler that doesn't work 🙃🙃🙃🙃

Be careful with Flonase!! She mentions this but I really want to clarify that you should not take it for too long. You're only supposed to take it for like two weeks max. It is a steroid as well as an antihistamine so it can lead to osteoporosis in your nose and other cartilage issues if you overuse it. I made the mistake of using it for like two months because I didn't read the instructions and I can definitely tell a difference in my nose shape towards the bridge and a slightly wider tip :(

I was allergic to cats for.. I think since birth. At one point I just wanted to try this method: I adoptet an old, female sterilized cat from a shelter. Old Cats produce less allergenes. You always have a few weeks to see if its working out between you and the animal, so this "Test" was kinda okay for me.
It worked out! A year after I got another female old sterilized. Still no Problem. Since then my Cat allergy seems to be gone.

I’ve struggled with the worse allergies my entire life. Allegra is a complete game changer that I wish I knew about earlier. It is the one thing you can take that will definitely work.

Love these tips! I’m going to start trying flonase. For people who don’t like the smell of most essential oils (like me) it’s really just the steam that helps the most, so a humidifier or facial steamer can also be a lot of help!
