NOVA Voyager Drill Press Features

We give you a closer look at the Nova Voyager DVR Drill Press and all of its features. This new drill press is the world's first smart drill press, featuring an incredibly smooth-running direct-drive motor that is controlled by a sophisticated microcomputer and digital screen with push-button controls. The computer features DVR (Digital Variable Reluctance) technology, which automatically adjusts and maintains the speed and power of the machine based on resistance. Nice work Chris! I beta tested a pre-production unit for over a year and shot the video Nova is using for this Press. It is, truly, the first real step forward in presses since the electric motor.

at first I was like Pffftt... who needs a computer controlled drill press... now I realize I need this.

Woodcraft carries Nova tools. I went by to look at this machine last week. They told me they had been shipped a demo machine for "Show". But, it had been taken back. "For Sale" units are supposedly due soon.They appears to be a very nice machine. But, my experience tells me it's never wise to jump headlong on ANY radically new product. I'll hold off until any "first production run" issues are resolved. I really do like that thing!

Hey. Excellent sweet video. I found 2 problems with this drill press. Problem 1: the work table only tilts -45/+45 left/right. It should also tilt forward/backwards. This would allow you to very quickly square the drill bit to the workpiece, which is locked in the drill press vice. Useful when drilling/tapping 2inch thick steel. Problem 2: runout. Should be zero.

Why are the vent holes on top? I know heat rises, but it seems like they would be better on the side so less dust collects in the housing and on the electronics. Maybe the electronics are sealed. Other than that, it looks great. Expensive, but great.

the main central nob is wobbling around like hell, and pretty sure will fall of or malfunction within months ! Is the case molded plastic or metal ?

good rockler infomercial. but I really wish you or rockier would give details on where the stuff presented could be purchased apart from USA. beyond me why rockler does not realise that the Internet is global.

Hopefully the run out is much less than what is commonly found on most of the consumer grade DIY drill presses in the marketplace. A smooth running motor can assist to lessen run out, but does not ensure it. "Feature rich" is attractive for sure, but bells and whistles get attenuated when a tool has sub par run out. Wish the review weighed in on run out for that particular machine, other than just using the terms "smooth running". We can hope they paid attention to getting the very basics right. If it runs nice and true, the premium price is a bit easier to bear.
