Another pro tip: check the vin number for the year model, the amount of people who advertise their bike as a newer year model is insane!

BIG tip that I have.... On the Japanese models, and others with an oil drain plug on the bottom of the case, check to see if anyone ever over-tightened that drain bolt. You'll see the huge gob of JB Weld they try to stop the oil leak with. They hope you'll just rip it down the street for a ride and not ride it for the half n hour it'll take for that JB Weld to start falling off... I've seen MANY YZ's and KX's with broken cases from that oil drain bolt.

My uncle gave me a broken dirt bike for free. But the repairs didn't cost as much as the bike.

Another way to see if they took good care of er is to look inside of the air box. Bring a 10mm socket if you gotta

I got a job and ever since I started making my own money, I made it my goal to buy myself a dirt bike. Was working at McDonald's for awhile but got fired so couldn't get a bike for a bit. Got another job in July at Tim Horton's (I'm 19 and I live at home) and I put my goal of buying a bike back into place. I bought my first ever bike last October. It's street legal too. 2004 Suzuki DR650. Went to the guy's house with my dad and his buddy to look at the bike and it was clean (still is but I'm going to give it an even better cleaning before riding it this year), in great condition and the guy gave us details about it. I'm not experienced in bikes as this is my first ever bike (that I purchased myself but my dad bought me two bikes in the past) but the bike looked amazing. He started it and it ran good. While the guy selling the bike was away from us for a bit, we discussed the price I should offer him. Offered him 400$ less than what he was asking and he said it's mine if I pay cash. He drove the bike to my dad's place the next day and I paid him cash. I will be getting my license to drive the bike on the road this year and I'll be bringing it to my mom's place and I'll be getting my stepdad to show me how to work on it (I want to keep it in the condition it was in when I bought it). I worked my ass off all night (I have a nighttime job) and it paid off. I got my own bike now and I couldn't be anymore proud. I'm really looking forward to driving it this year.

Ask when they've changed engine oil, clutch fluid, brake fluid last time.

Another good tip: ask them why they’re selling the bike

Good idea to check the suspension at both ends. Kind of important. Shocks can be blown, springs can sag. Should be on your list I think.

Very Nice video. And very important is if the bike have a skidplade take it off to see the frame for serious damage. Some enduro bikes have a plastic skidplate and the first owners don't change it with aftermarket more durable and smash the bike in rocks and logs. It is very important.

These are great tips. I recently baught two bikes from one seller. Both bikes had less then 10 hours on them. Paid $1700.00 for the pair. Opened up a shed and there they were. Thanks for the head's up.👍🇺🇸

I was gonna buy a quad on face book but I was scrolling through YouTube vids and thought the quad looked familiar and I clicked on it to see the exact same quad I was gonna buy being jumped and beat and another video of the engine all ripped apart and broken

I recently did a jackpot purchase on a 2016 WR450F. Seller had lots of high-dollar toys in his garage, all very clean and shiny. Bike was 4 years old but completely immaculate, had several tasteful aftermarket add-ons that I would have added myself anyway, plus the $300 power tuner and a few new replacement parts. Best thing is, he was asking at least $1000 less than he should have been asking for this particular machine... I think he wanted to make a quick sale and I was happy to oblige.
Also, some people replace perfectly good stock levers with aftermarket pieces -- the presence of an aftermarket lever does not mean that the previous lever was broken off when it hit the ground.

Watching this in 2022 when 10 year old used bikes are selling for $500 less than a brand new bike.
