Great tips as always. The thing I would mention is don't go too big with your screen. I went to 17" thinking that it would be better, but it just makes it impossible to use as a laptop. That and the battery life of a gaming Laptop really just makes it a desktop with built in keyboard, trackpad and screen! Some really good ideas in this one. Cheers

Ok the tip number one was if you are on a super tight budget (£350) you can pick up a basic laptop or Chromebook, which is fair. But then immediately say for a 'little bit' more you can pick up a Mac a with m1 for around £1k, nearly triple the price...that is not a little bit more.

Everyone is looking for a Windows laptop review, but the first thing the reviewers try to push is a macbook and a chromebook. There isn't a single reviewer that will just test the products and give the numbers. The reason buying a laptop is so complicated is because it's impossible to get honest reviews. Just paid advertisements.

Thanks for this.
I’ve watched loads of advice and reviews and my head is still spinning but this helps. I need a new laptop and my primary use at the moment, aside from Excel and the usual stuff, is Lightroom Classic and some Photoshop. I’ve also started dabbling with video editing and I want to start exploring Ps more and also Power BI (for work). I think I know what I need but don’t want to leave myself short on spec or go overboard! Noisy fans seem to be an issue in some models I’ve seen reviews for!

going from Windows to MacOS is an utter nightmare if you have used Windows for a long time.
Also - Chromebooks have a finite lifespan, watch out for the end date of their security updates! It's from date of manufacture not date of sale I believe!

If you include Chromebook you can also include tablets like tab S7/8 or similar that can be converted in notebook way

nice video for people first buying for sure ! 👍
still the best choice for most freedom with the OS....is IMHO Windows based laptops or PC's.
I also have a chromebook here but those things are more fitted for a "all things google" kind of person.
i prefer windows on computers or laptops.

Superb run down of essentials to look for in a laptop. Is helpful and timely for me as I'm scouting for one.

I talk price and features when discussing buying a computer for someone
What's your budget. Which locks them into a specific performance category
Then what features must you have. Size of the screen. mouse, keyboard, touchscreen, gaming, 3d modeling, video editing.
once that's establishing. I start narrowing it down to a couple of models then it just comes down to looks and price.

Throwing numbers around for cpu memory and resolution and what not, most people look at you like What?
Price range is the best indicator of what to get. Need something with a GPU, $1500 laptop. Need something for office work. $600 to $800. Need something to access the internet. Your phone a tablet or a chrome book.

Thanks for including Chromebooks as part of your overview...for many folks (including me, but generally not the folks who haunt these channels) it's the perfect computer.

ASUS Zenbook 14 UX3402ZA - LENOVO Yoga 9i 14" 2 in 1 - SAMSUNG Galaxy Book3 360 which one would you advice?

My default for cozy is 3000K. I find 2000-2700K way too yellow in a sickly jaundiced sort of way. I would only use 2000-2700K sparingly - such as in accent/ambient lighting applications like an LED light strip. 3000K OTH gives you enough of a hint of that elegant golden glow without looking like hepatitis threw up all over your house.
