Hope this helps someone. Searched gaming laptops like crazy for 4 months before I bought a new one 1 month ago (upgraded from MSI 63thin 1660Ti) to Lenovo Legion slim 5 with 4070 and a Ryzen 7840HS. Screen 2560x1600, (QHD). Reviews said some bad stuff and some good stuff about the CPU and GPU but man let me tell you it runs smooth as butter on every game. Thermal has not been a problem at all. What I want to tell people with this comment is just do the amount of research you want but after a while just go for it. Because someone will still say the comp is bad either way.

I explained to a computer salesman Tip # 4 when I was window shopping 2mos ago, funny thing, he labelled me as too finicky on specs. Did not bother to justify, as he didn’t know most of the specs he was selling.

Awesome tips Jarrod! Might use them next year as thinking of finally upgrading my devices.

I'm always grateful to this channel as this was the reason why I bought my Legion 5.

It's a 2021 model and it is still running as if it is new 2 years later.

Only thing I'd like to add is paying attention to heat and noise of the laptop. Overall an easy to digest and useful video. Much appreciated.

I purchased a HP Omen 15 with an integrated 10 key layout in early 2021. It was my first ever gaming laptop running a 1660 ti. While I hardly ever game on it, as I utilize my desktop computer for that, the HP Omen means a lot to me emotionally as it's my backup just in case I'm unemployed and my desktop computer crashes. Something I've experienced in the past. So, my gaming laptop means more to me than just playing games.

The price part is actually really tricky, I might find a laptop that reviewers said it costs 1200$ while that's only true in the states, while in other continents that same gaming laptop can go up to 1600$ or even way more.

Hey man, just a question on 4070 laptops. I know you discussed it plenty and it turned out to be basically equal to 3070ti, but in Legion 5 pro 2023 review you published, the 1% low was actually much worse than 3070ti. I wonder if with updated drivers the current scenario for 4070 improved vs a few months back.
You are the best!

Love your honest work. Truly a blessing for us all. Less than 10 minute video covers every important point.

Laptops were initially manufactured with a CPU socket, just like they are now on motherboards. However, they soon started soldering them, understandably, as it generated more profit. After experiencing significant heating issues with older models, users were told that the CPU had failed and that they needed to buy a new laptop. Meanwhile, companies were refurbishing (CPU reballing) and reselling the same laptops. Today, laptops generate less heat and have fewer breakdowns, but the reballing method remains the same. That's why we don't drive cars on hydrogen but on fuel :).
Good video!

Best Tip - Never listen to sponsored ytuber .

Great tips like always, reviewers in my country's usually paid sponsorships so It is difficult to find unbiased reviewers that reviews other smaller spec laptops.
(Like how they says that the GF63 Thin is a *"good"* laptop)

Also check the wattage of components, especially wattage of graphics cards (TGP). I personally wouldn’t go under 100W graphic card nowadays.

I still love watching these kinds of videos. I'm still running on i5-11400, 1650, but I'm only playing pokemon GBA/DS games on emulators. Love this channel

Some feedback for Tip 4. I don’t know what unit measurements you are talking about for brightness and I am sure there are lots of people that do know.

But adding the word onto the screen with the unit of measurement helps me identify the values I need to be concerned with.

my laptop that I recently got has been perfect for me

I used to run on a thinkpad x390 which was really slow, so any upgrade was amazing for me. I ended up getting a top specced dell g16 (not the new g16 with the 40 series, but the old one with 30 series. Those 40 series are way too expensive), and it has been amazing. high resolution with 165hz, and 32 whole GB of ram.

also for reviews I recommend looking at patterns in the negative reviews, such as people complaining that there was only one ssd slot, and ignoring the one off issues like john doe saying his computer broke after 3 days of use.

My 7 tips in order.
1) GPU
2) CPU
3) Screen quality and Refresh rate (not resolution)
4) Chassis
5) Trackpad
6) Battery
7) SSD/Memory
