So do devices on the 2nd router not have access to and can't see anything on the main network? That's my goal.

You said no way to get round nat? I plugged my secondary router in, put in all isp details and set it up as normal, plugged a LAN cable in to the main router and then in to the wan on secondary, no NAT issues at all, my lads play station was going NAT fail every other way I tried, but through the wan, worked perfectly

Hi,

After all the settings, what ports do you use to connect the main and secondary router?

Main: lan
Secondary: wan

Or main: lan
Secondary:lan

Thanks.

Thank you!
Just added the ExpressVPN to an Asus RT-AC68U router. Took me days before watching your video.
- The ExpressVPN website only mentioned to configure the Asus as a secondary router, not HOW to do this,
which Asus does not clearly explain. (Operation mode = "Wireless", which is default on the Asus).
- This has to be done BEFORE flashing the firmware to ExpressVPN.
- Bridging the ISP modem/router does NOT work with the Asus.

I’m trying to use the second router to connect all smart home things to.
I want to prevent any vulnerability of things like switches and locks from accessing my primary router.
I’m assuming setting it up like this video should do the trick. I hope so.

I did this in my house. Set up a Wifi 802.11n router upstairs in bridge mode, as the Downstairs 802.11AC router doesn't have any reach. I also set up a second hotspot downstairs to use with my iBook G3. It would only work on this WRT54GS B/G Wifi router with WEP enabled. I know WEP is not secure but I'm not broadcasting the SSID.

There since has been a problem and it seemed to be bricked. Tried resetting it, nothing. Tried a different power adapter and the orange Cisco light lit again. But I forgot how I had it connected and how I had it set up. It does not have bridge mode. It has router mode and gateway mode. So I put it in router mode. Connected the WRT54GS's WAN port to a LAN port on an 8 port unmanaged switch coming off of my main router. The iBook does not have internet like it did before. I've had to reset it a bunch of times today and now I can't get to the web interface. Guess factory reset is in order! Sorry this was so long.

Thank you very much for such an informative video. I am planning on setting up two separate networks, with Wifi, using two routers and one modem, in such a way that I will have the choice of unplugging the ethernet cable from one router to temporarily disable the internet connection to all the computers connected to that router, while leaving the other router connected to the internet. I greatly appreciate for any suggestions that would help me accomplish such set up.

Thanks. Worked like a charm. I'm not sure if I missed it but I changed it to router mode. Seems to be working ok. I had a newer N300 box that's limited to 3 devices and an older 54G box that could handle more connections but was overheating or something. So I put the video connections on the N300 and all other on 54G. Hopefully the N300 can handle the setup.

@Low Ping King I have a Optimum Modem/Router combo Gateway the ISP gave me it has 1gbps speed. I also have that gateway wired directly to the wan on the Netgear R7000 router I bought on my own for the home. I was getting double NAT as you described. What I did was call the ISP and I asked them to put the gateway in Bridge Mode. They did and now i have a single nat only on the Netgear Router. When i game with UPNP or Port forwarding i have a open Nat. I can even leave my nat to moderate on the router settings and its still open. So My question I have for you is... Is that what you are doing in this video because all this is confusing to me a little. AND IS IT SAFE???? thats what i wanna know the gateway in bridge mode is wired to the router to the pc or xbox. is that safe considering i have security on the router, should have a firewall bc i dont have dmz on, and the computer and xbox have their own firewalls? Please let me know. just want to game safely with a Open Nat type. Thanks

When doing this, did you notice an increase on your internet bill?

I am starting a new work from home job and I need to know does it cost more on your bill?

My routers doesn't seems to be talking to each other. Connected LAN (main router) to WAN (secondary router). My secondary router's external ip address is on same subnet as my main router and the internal network is different as you mentioned in your video. But newly added network has no internet as the routers are in disconnected status. Any suggestion?

Hi Busted, Many people say you have to change the 2ndry router to a static IP so as not to have any problems. My ASUS was either defaulted or auto updated its LAN to 192.168.50.1. Its WAN IP was assigned a 192.186.1.11 and I see that IP on the main router LAN and the WAN of the secondary. Both are set to DHCP. DO you think I will be OK. Things seem to be working great.

Thanks for the great video, it was really helpful.
Can I use a wireless access point as the second router or does it have to be a router?

Hey SGR I hope I am not bothering you but you seem to know these a lot better.
I have 2 MU-MIMO routers connected with 5ping, 50mbps down and 20mbps up and sometimes the ping jumps to 24ms, 4mbps down and 20mbps up.

I dont know if this is related to NAT but if it is how to use only one NAT or bridge?

Would this still work in theory with new routers?
