Got it, after trying with an old router for years. The secret for me was to change the IP of the router first with DHCP on, then save it, go back in and disable the DHCP server. Trying to switch off the DHCP first in my router hid all the router ip settings. Sneaky ISP trying to lock down their gear. Hopefully this helps someone!

Someone else (thank you Ryan!) earlier made this observation BUT IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT. On some old routers, the FIRST STEP ought to be to change the IP address of the old router, THEN log in to this NEW IP address, THEN complete the setup including the deactivation of DHCP. My old Actiontec 1000a would not allow changing the IP address if DHCP was deactivated.

This was brilliant !!! I just used my old router for this and it works great !! The only inconvenience part is arranging a lan-cable long enough to reach the other room but it works !!

I have already do this and it works very well, if you have an old router with wifi this is very worth doing.

Last time I only get 10Mbps using other tutorials, now I'm getting full 100Mbps. I missed the manual IP assignment on the second router, got it from this tutorial.

EXACTLY what I was looking for - with excellent animations and stuff. This is just tremendously good! Great job.

It defies the purpose to use a long ethernet cable, most people trying to extend their internet do not have the option to run a long cable hence the reason why they are looking for a this solution. If you can run a long cable between two floors might as well use a switch and hard wire everything.

DHCP !!! That's what I needed to change !
Man, I keep getting back to this video because it's just well made.
My current setup is like this:
1st router that's connected to the landline or whatever and get access to the internet first.
2nd router connected with a long cable to my room.
3rd router that is in my sibling's room and is connected to 2nd router with a cable.
I JUST set up the 3rd router for some specific reasons but it created some problems. Like, on my 2nd router, all 4 ethernet ports were occupied:
1. cable coming from 1st router
2. My PC
3. cable going to 3rd router
4. Xbox One
For some reason, if I had all 3 of them connected, 1 of them would not have access to the internet even though it said they were connected and had no other problems. If I changed the order at when I plugged in each cable, a different device would lose access to the internet. I even changed that router to a different old 4th router but nothing. I knew I had missed a step so I came back here to find the solution and it was to disable the DHCP !!!

I would also like to know if this can be done without an Ethernet cable. Thanks
