6÷2(1+2) is a simple and unambiguous problem of division, a÷b, where a=6 and b=2(1+2).
Unfortunately, too many people today can't handle division by a product. (Hint: Division by a product=Division by EACH of its factors!)
So they change the expression 6÷2(1+2) to something they can handle, i.e., 6÷2x(1+2) and get 9.
They forget that whenever we expand implicit multiplication to explicit multiplication by adding the multiplication sign between two or more factors, we must enclose the factors involved in ().
Thus ab= (a*b), not just a*b, and 6÷2(1+2) = 6÷(2x(1+2)), not merely 6÷2x(1+2)

Why has the world forgotten all about juxtaposition? Algebra falls flat on its face without it. Implied multiplication has a higher priority than standard division/multiplication. This means that the multiplication goes with the parenthesis. The real rule is PEJMDAS. If the problem were written out with an explicit operator as “6 ÷ 2 x (1 + 3)” then the answer would be 9. Without the explicit operator, the answer is “1” because the parenthesis are not cleared until ALL the related operations are completed. The intent of the “implied” multiplication is that it is used with the parenthesis.

6÷2×3. The real problem is 2×3. It is ÷2×3.
