Got some spare starter? Why not make some crackers! This recipe is so simple, it would be a sin to bin your leftover starter instead of making these. Loaded with seeds and rye flour they have a very distinct flavour. Who knows maybe they are kind of healthy too!

I semi made these today, had also looked at your cheese crackers again and decided to mix them - that is add some cheese to these. Kept the seed topping off since the hubby makes a mess with seeds 🤣 Definitely a win!!!!

Thanks for these simple and clear videos. Just made my first sourdough starter and bread from it! Next will attempt these crackers. ✨

These turned out so well, thank you. I brushed the dough with water to help adhere the seeds. Worked perfectly. Just a heads up, in the “Method” you omitted the addition of sourdough .

I made these crackers because I had just made three different kinds of sourdough starters.
All of the recipes from Charlie have worked perfectly for me save this one. But to be fair, I dbled
the recipe because my trays are dbl the size recomended.
I either should have stayed with the same qty recipe and rolled the crackers to very thin,
or my starter was too wet, or perhaps I should have baked them at a lower temperature
so the crispness would be like a cracker. What should I have done?

I’m going to try these with all purpose flour, too. I expect them to be more bland, like saltines

wow advice for us !!!!

i can use vegan butter too, but awesome for the eggwash ty so much...
should it be watery, medium or like a paste the sub for eggwasch?

can treacle be replaced by molasses (its sweet and a bit bitter too?

will try these as soon as i have enough discard, just made a discard bread
can't wait to try them, ty again and again :)

oh regarding the dbl batch of crackers. I did soak the seeds in coconut aminos, could that extra water, even though they were drained have affected the creackers. I also did a 2nd thing was to leave them rolled out in the fridge for 2 hours because I had a meditation circle and did not want to break out of it. Could that be why the crackers were soft?

hi there - I am new to baking. I like to avoid sugar/honey etc. is the treacle here important to the taste of the recipe or to the development of the dough? Can I skip it?

I made these today as Project #1 for my Sourdough Baking Weekend. Tried them already and they are great - perfect for light snacking. Will enjoy them with some homemade hummus and perhaps some Manchego cheese. Photo has been posted. Just to clarify - you mentioned that you like these with cream cheese or or naked - you were referring to the crackers, yes? 😆😆😆 (sorry, I just couldn't resist). Thanks for sharing this fantastic recipe. Time to clean up and start prepping my other weekend Sourdough projects.
