Director Juan Antonio Bayona follows up his critically-acclaimed feature debut The Orphanage with this drama set during the 2004 tsunami, and detailing one family's incredible fight for survival. Inspired by actual events, The Impossible opens on December 26th, as Henry (Ewan McGregor), his wife Maria (Naomi Watts), and their three sons lounge poolside following an eventful Christmas. But just as the family begins to forget their troubles and settle in for a relaxing tropical getaway, one of the worst natural disasters in modern history changes their lives in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, as shock gives way to abject horror, the devoted parents fight to protect their children, encountering scenes heart-wrenching tragedy and experiencing acts of incredible compassion as the entire country of Thailand is engulfed in chaos. Tom Hollander and Geraldine Chaplin co-star.

I love how she never showed her weakness to Lucas when there was just her and Lucas. But she immediately said she was scared when she saw her husband.

This is a sweet moment between these two. The acting is awesome and the whole thing is so realistic.

Naomi Watts was initially hesitant about taking this role, because she knew that it was going to be very physically demanding.  She did it, because Maria Belon - the real-life mother of the family that the movie is based upon - wanted her for it.  Watts was so good that she got a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and Tom Holland came close to being nominated for Best Supporting Actor (he was only 16 when he played Lucas).

I watched this movie a few years ago in school in geography class and you could tell Tom was an amazing actor even when no one knew him and it’s incredible to see him grow in front of you
