1:03 “and she can take me home”. That actress deserves some sort of recognition for her performance. I’m about the same age that Lizzie is but I haven’t had any of the same experiences, being moved, losing a parent, etc. but when the actress said that line it struck very deep. I don’t know her name but that girl is very talented.

The neighbour went from "wtf you doing in my garden" to "oh, understandable, have a nice day".

It’s so sad that Lizzie couldn’t just accept that her mother didn’t want to raise her. I know how that feeling when your mother, you’re own parent, the one person who you’re supposed to look up to and idolize, walks out on you and doesn’t look back.

If only Lizzie knew they chose her first, they didn’t know about Her siblings

"And we can figure something out. And she can take me home." 😭 😭

The entire time, it was the girl who wanted her mom to take them back . It was the girl who was convincing her mother to take them back when in reality she didnt actually want to raise them .😭

Lizzie saying “And she can take me home” Really reveals a lot about her, for the whole movie she was acting like she was the emotionally stable one who was looking after her siblings and that Juan and Lita were the ones who were emotionally broken, when in reality it was her who was the most broken

The girl doesn't want to be a child anymore
But she acts like a mum, not a sister. She used her mum to get out of the system and just act like the first time she came in

I have lived with my foster parents for 15 years. My biological parents were never able to get us back. I remember countless times we would go on visits and have to go home because my mom or dad didnt show. I remember vividly when I was 5 that a social worker asked if I wanted to live with my mom and dad or my foster parents. I chose my foster parents and I dont regret it. This movie really helps to show foster care and parenting of it.

If only this movie was hardly campaigned for Oscar then I think Lizzie’s actress could’ve been nominated, her acting was very good

If you have actually done foster care you'll know this movie is very realistic. Its hilarious but sad at the same time.

Honestly wish foster parents could handle a situation like this and still care for the child, most parents do this for the money.

Poor girl is probably thinking “why wouldn’t my own mother want me?”

No kid should ever go through that 😞

This is actually extremely accurate. I used to work with "at risk" kids that for various reasons didn't have someone who could take care of them. It really didn't matter of their parents were alcoholic meth addicts that constantly beat them or worse, they wanted to be with them.

"Hey, wth is going on here?" "Give us a second damnit" looks at girl** "Oh, okay sorry." Lol

For all the young people, that neighbor, is Academy Award winner Joan Cusack. An actress for literally 40 years, and hand chosen by the director Sean Anders. She was an icon during my childhood, and in alot of films during Generation Z's beginning.

This scene made me cry about lizzy's mom being unsupportive.

I love it how the neighbor gave them privacy when she understood ❤️

incredible acting from Isabela in this scene (and the rest too!) because it does show how any teen or child that still wants their mother to just be with them would react. The instant panicking, tearing up, the stuttering, and breaking down during a sentence while talking afterwards almost made me forget this was just a movie.
