In an F-14A, on Final is the *WORST* possible time of all possible times to lose an engine.

The thing that gets me is that this guy used a call sign that had been retired from service. Maverick is a call sign for rear admiral R Byron Fuller. He flew A-4 Skyhawks. He was a POW. He enlisted as a normal service man into the navy and went to college and became an officer and got the name as an ensign. He was given the name on his first day in his squadron. I know because I knew him. He’s a family friend.

It is a procedure to go full afterburner after you hit the deck so if you missed the wire with your aircraft would have enough speed to take off and go around for another try. None of that applies when taking the barricade. Once you are in that net their is NO going around.
