Wales has it's own language which is used daily by over 200, 00 people. especially in the north west where I grew up. Welsh has been spoken since the Romans left Britain (the legendary King Arthur was Welsh and he fought the Saxons and their allies who became the English) and is still the daily language of many. It is possible to live in Wales (Cymru) completely through the medium of the welsh language, schools are Welsh, there is Welsh television and radio, Welsh newspapers and magazines etc.

It is due to Europe being simply one massive peninsula that has loads of mountain ranges. Between France and Spain, between Italy and Germany and France, the Caucasus mountain range, between Austria/Hungary and the Balkans, Norway and Sweden. It is due to these which divided people and therefore cultures.

Because the Asian tribes (Huns) moved westward. That's why there's so many. It's not even a theory it's a fact. Bulgarians used to live around Volga, Hungarians were around Urals.

Interesting! I can confirm that I, as a German, still See all these different regional identities. I love how diverse German culture really is and how it is still growing with more and more new influences nowadays. It is interesting to mention that although I would always identify myself with my region (which used to be a seperate entity and has its own languages) rather than with my federal state. And, although at most times I feel closer to the Netherlands than to Bavaria, German identity is still strong. Not in a patriotic way, but as pride of German history, including scientists, authors and artists, and our position in the modern world. As an economical and political power, we feel very progressive and liberal and that is a very important part of Germany. Maybe because these aspects can all be credited to Germany as a whole, not even Bavaria has a significant amount of separatists. Just speculating.

I love how you talked about the Basque region while it's actually one of the only region that don't want to be independent.
Plus France will not split up, it's not like the UK.

When you told all the European countries from the USSR, you forgot Moldova !

Also, some countries have multiple separatist movements. Spain has Catalonia and Basque. Libya has 3 separatist regions. America has multiple separatist states (Texas, California, etc.).

Countries split from other countries because they are different or a country invaded them so when the country was weak, they declared independence.
Examples: Yugoslavia, USSR, Sweden, and Austria-Hungary

6:30 Russian Empire in WW1. Spilt up after the Russian Revolution and most (possibly all countries that weren't Russia) got their independence. However a lot of them were conquered and incorporated into the USSR very soon, whereas the Baltic states took a couple of decades to reincorporated, and the attempt to reconquer Finland known as the Winter War was a trainwreck.
