I've been carnivore for over 3 years, lost 125+:pounds . I tell people it's the QUALITY of calories that matters. If people would focus more on the nutrients in food instead of the calorie count they would be better off. In my opinion anyway.

3:40 Gain weight? Yes. But gain fat? Debatable.

This is one of the biggest cause of disputes among people, confusing between "weight loss" and "fat loss". Weight includes you whole body, whereas fat is only the fat tissue, when people say they want to lose weight, what they mean is that they want to lose the fat tissue and not the muscle mass or other body parts. Infact you yourself somewhat acknowledge that at 6:46

So is it possible to increase muscle mass and decrease fat at the same time while eating a caloric surplus diet? The answer is not as simple as calorie in calorie out.

Calories absolutely matter IF you do not have a shut-off valve, lol. History of BED, so overeating has been really difficult for me. Even cutting out all junk, and all carbs, going complete carnivore (6 months in) I can still put away enough food for 3 people. I think I might be broken. 0.o Initially I lost a few pounds but have since gained it back and am not losing at all. I have to count calories, my body is just not regulating yet.

Fantastic explanation! Thank you. My parents and in laws were being sent to an early grave by the FDA food pyramid style diet and I'm happy to report my parents are on keto and my in laws are now carnivore. They have more energy and illness that have been building up, like hypertension, gout, joint pain, and other problems are starting to clear up. My children will get to know their grandparents thanks to keto/carnivore!

3:10 you mention a ken berry video, if it's the one i'm thinking of he explains that we use more or less all the protein for rebuilding cells, muscle and so on before it's turned to energy, so counting it is near pointless anyway i believe similar things were said about fat but i can't remember off the top of my head, that was the only part that stuck out to me tbh.

It's great that you explain this as it feels like there is a lot of confusing information out there on the topic (probably by design to keep people addicted to processed products instead of eating whole food)

Talk about confusion, I just read a news article in a well known UK medical publication, it reads according to experts fish and seafood cause high blood pressure due to natural salts they contain, it goes on stating eating lots of seafood and meat is associated with heart attacks and strokes and people should eat vegan substitutes instead, this is confusing and scare mongering.

Calories are a unit of energy unless you're the only object in existence that (consistently) doesn't conserve energy - then they matter. But the idea that they're difficult to properly track is true.

However, just because we don't have a way to be exact, that doesn't mean we can't have a useful estimate.

Science dictates that you must be in a deficit for fat loss. But I agree tracking is hard for the reasons you said. That’s why having a rough idea and weighing yourself and taking measurements is best. It you weigh yourself daily and take a monthly average weight if it went down you were in a deficit it it stays the same you are at maintenance and if it goes up you were I. A surplus this is not my opinion this is science. Great vid

Your body is going to be using the majority of Protein for rebuilding not for energy so counting each gram at 4 calories is wrong. The energy is going to be coming from either fat or carbs. @ 4:32 - 100g x 4 = 400 not 1000. Look up the "Randle Cycle" you should eat carbs or fat not both together.

I can very easily eat 180-200 grams protein and still stay at 1500 cal. I’m 5’2 and 125 lbs. and I’m not feeling stuffed after. Not sure if that’s good or not lol 😬

I love the way you talk about things, you never say that a certain food or way of eating is chisled in stone and cant be deviated from. I saw the Dr. Berry video where he talked about being able to eat as much as you want in a couple meals within a certain time period. Well, that may be true for a lot of people but i'm definitely not one of them because it seems that no matter how much i eat at one meal, i dont get the sensation of being full unless its an enormous amount of food. I can still eat an entire digiorno frozen pizza ( about 1800 calories or so depending on which one i stuff in ), and not feel like i'm really full. Since i've been eating mainly low carb, i can eat 2000 calories a day and lose a pound each week, if i eat 2600 i stay the same and anything over that i gain weight. So for me, calories do matter. I've actually duked it out online with people on keto or carnivore telling me that its ok to eat as much as you want and still lose weight, and i know for me thats absolutely not true. Anyway, theres my 2 cent rant. lol. Thanks for your pragmatism .

I think If you have a severe disease a calorie defecit will help cleaning up all the waste.

I know this video is old and it does make sense. I knew I could depend on you for the best and easiest explanation. That is why you are always my first go to when I am needing answers. Thank you Lillie.💕

Great explanation! I appreciate your hard work and consistency in uploading these videos! Are there other clean/good beef patties that you can recommend for those of us who don't have a Costco membership? From Publix, Aldis, wholefoods or Walmart? Thank you in advance!
