Exercise Number #7 from Basic Jazz Conception by Lennie Niehaus

Показать описание
This is Exercise #7 from Basic Jazz Conception for Saxophone by Lennie Niehaus. The aim is to learn to play the phrase with 2 snaps, lean, slur, snap then accent. To play the lean, imagine you're pressing on a jelly!
The guide tempo is 'Moderate Swing' but you can play it at any speed provided you can play the phrasing accurately.
When you are going for the top notes (lever keys) practise them softly first before you try and add the accents - the temptation is to strangle them by biting the mouthpiece and blowing too hard because people get stressed by high notes! Play them softly to show that you have the breath control, then add the attack.
Good luck!
P.S. the copyright of course belongs to Lennie Niehaus and Try Publishing Company - this is just my interpretation for teaching purposes.
