EVERY police officer needs to watch how the sargent handled the situation and let the journalist into the building after taking the time to get his fact straight. Now THAT's a good cop.

The serg who defended his right to record in a government building was on point! That’s a huge violation of our rights that’s gotta stop asap. Citizens need the right to record in public because the authority is ALWAYS recording in public

The 2nd incident the cop was disciplined, lost his role on the task force. The passenger reported it, supported the driver. Cherry’s apology comes after the detective was stripped of his badge and gun and transferred out of the FBI's elite Joint Terrorism Task Force. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton also admonished Cherry after the video went viral online, saying “No good cop can watch that without a wince”, and the NYPD and independent Civilian Complaint Review Board have been investigating the exchange.

The sergeant that Long Island auditor ran into was the coolest sergeant I’ve seen on YouTube. “You’re exercising your rights? That’s awesome!” Cheers to your sergeant, you deserve a promotion.

They always say say "If you're not doing anything wrong why do you have a problem showing us your ID?." Yet they always seem to have a problem with us videoing them in the course of their duties and I would simply say "If you've not doing anything wrong why do you have a problem with it being recorded?"

Teaching cops the limits of their authority is an unending process. Maybe they aren't being trained correctly in the first place.
