In this tutorials we will show you how to fix this error when installing Windows from a USB pen drive.

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition"

To solve the problem, do the following.
Unplug your USB flash drive and after a few seconds, plug it back in.
Click on "Refresh" button in the Setup.
The error should be gone.
If that does not solve the problem, try to use a different USB flash drive.
Some flash drives can cause errors.
Another thing you can try is to change "SATA mode" in your computer's BIOS to "IDE".

Thank You for taking time to watch this video.

This video was captured with Magewell "XI100DUSB-HDMIi" video capture dongle.

After spending 5 hours using every "fix" I could find - with no success - I stumbled on your video. WOW! In less than a minute my computer booted to Windows 7 install and no further problems. THANK YOU!

Watched multiple videos and scoured through multiple forums. What finally worked was I changed the Sata mode to IDE in the bios. Thank you very much. :-)

Unplugging the pen drive and plugging it back in worked on a fresh install of Windows 7 on a Sony VAIO, Y Series, VPCYB15AG. Thank you very much.

Thanks, I cant believe this works! I've wasted an hour using cmd line interface formatting and all sorts. Can't believe it's this simple.

Thank you very much! It works for my computer.

This solution is simple and clean. It saves us a lot of time by avoiding the "diskpart" command. Cool!

Cheers 🍻 I unplugged and put it in another USB 2.0 port and voila.

I started out using the USB 3.0 port which gave another error about not being able to find drivers. Then this error came up.... Super annoying but I'm very glad I tried your video.
Thank you!!
