I love how gives people genuine advice and doesn’t push other people into a rigorous gym routine and diet

If, in the nude, you can look at yourself in the mirror; with out thowing up or passing out, you're probably alright.

Mike keeps it so real, especially as someone who’s been in the fitness world and is jacked as hell himself. No BS “You need to have these numbers” or something along those lines. As someone who works in healthcare, and as someone who has seen many elderly struggle to do basic activities, it’s refreshing to hear that the only real goal for aging is “I can walk well and I don’t need assistance sitting down and standing up”

I heave to say this. Didn't see even one video I disliked with him in. Just damn facts.

Thanks!

This is baseline health advice for people without any judgement. Love this empathic approach

My dad refuses to use a bed, he sleeps on a very large mattress in the ground. He says the exercise required to get up and lay down every day is essential to his mobility as he ages. He did take care of 3 different elderly relatives in the end of their lives. Now in his late 60s, regularly wins senior swimming competitions.

I once met an elderly woman who woke up one day and couldn't unscrew a cap from a bottle of water because she was weak and never worked out in her life. It scared the crap out of me to envision that this could even happen.

Spectacularly inclusive answer. Didn’t try to say that people should be X or Y size or shape, or souls be able to lift this much weight that many times. I love it.

Short of people working doubles or triples, everyone has enough time to work on FUNCTIONAL bodies. With proper technique and even just dumbbells at home, we can all make ourselves day-to-day functional just fine.

One of the reasons I ended up switching to a more physical occupation. Worked at a shipping company (one of the big three) for two years as a trailer loader and was in decent shape. Went to a software company for over a decade and a lot of that went away. Now I'm back to a not always physical but can be sometimes physically stressful job. But I do enjoy it. I may only be 30 lbs over weight but I do have enough strength to not be winded living my life including when I'm in a hurry running around my house up and down the stairs and not be out of breath.

This makes a lot of sense.
I tell a lot of people I work with if they can't do everything they want to to in daily life, work out. If your lifestyle doesn't support your physique, it's SO much harder to stay in your desired shape

This is what I love about Mike, not a hard number that people will take to hard and strive for possibly unnecessarily.
He instead gives a simple self assessment you can do at home if you are uncomfortable.

Iv been following Mike and his wealth of knowledge now for a few years, I have definitely seen improvements in what I have applied that knowledge too.

Doesn’t matter how much muscle if you’ve fallen and can’t even get up!!

Not me as a middle aged guy pausing the video and laying on the first 6-7 are easy enough.... pretty good little tester to be honest

To those who say 10 reps getting up is super-easy, you are probably super light or already very conditioned and coordinated. It probably also has a lot to do with core strength and muscular endurance.

Then it's also, are you using momentum, i.e. rolling and standing up or do this slowly pressing your body in a deep squat position and then getting up.

Either way, I manage to do the 10 if I have to but it's quite tough. I'm in my 40s but still very active, lifting, hiking and biking. I am also fairly heavy, most of it muscle but this exercise really gets at me. I might be lacking core strength and this is what has deteriorated more than other things recently.

I cannot imagine elderly unfit people even doing two of those in a row.

Anyway I am going to do these more regularly as a warm up etc.

I love how straight-forward and relatable his advice is.

I think I'm at 240lbs by this point. I''m new to lifting but I've been at it for half a year or so now. Not as heavy as I want to because I'm a home gamer and don't have a lot of money. I'm surprised at the strength I am gaining. I've been really thin throughout most of my life. A typical computer nerd. Now I'm manhandling 45 lbs. Thank you Mike for inspiring me to train.

I remember the first time I noticed my own muscles. I started working harder cuz I was young and genuinely had a "that's me?" Moment of disbelief in the idea that I could ever look a little good to myself. I'm ugly still but I have legs and core like you wouldn't believe.
