LET’S LEARN MORE 🕺🏻: I’m referring strictly to the number of TOUGH & MOST 👉🏼effective sets👈🏼 here. It doesn’t mean you can’t have some lighter sets - I certainly do
⬇️
My lighter sets are either:
[A] a Warm-up set
OR
[B] what I call a “Feeler Set” Basically this is a set where the weight is getting decently heavy, and I’m using it to judge what weight I should use for my first 👉🏼effective set👈🏼 (you could consider this a warm-up set as well, but it has more intention in my book than a mindless light warm-up set)
⬇️
When it comes to the most 👉🏼effective sets👈🏼 or “working” sets: 6-8 sets, or so (for each muscle group) every 3-4 days is a pretty good goal (that would be 12-16 or so per week - per muscle group - pushing to near TRUE failure)
⬇️
The numbers given in this video are pretty general & are for someone who has their diet, sleep, and training in order. Also, an individuals level of experience could impact the number of sets they need, but again, these are good goals for most people.
⬇️
One final note: There are nearly countless factors that can impact muscle growth. At the end of the day….. just go in, and train your a** off & you’ll see results

For me 10-12 sets for smaller muscle groups and 14-16 sets for bigger muscle groups works well. I am leaving 2 reps in tank on compounds and only 1 on isolations. I do go to failure on last set of isolations tho.

I go to failure on basically everything, but I'm just winging it, I don't know wtf I'm doing. Still, newby gains are real!

On isolation when it feels like your muscle is about to literally explode it's usually a good reminder

I've been doing classic 5 heavy reps for 5 sets with 5 different exercises for a muscle group.

Push, pull, legs, rest day and repeat.

Not kidding you guys. His explanation’s on what sets to do, combined with the explanation of exactly what you should feel after a set and which exact muscle should be felt and across where is simply unparalleled to any other YouTuber. Thanks for being the original og Davis .

Dude, add stomach vacuums to your abs or upperbody workouts, it'll help make your stomach section suck in a little more and I think that'll help your already amazing physique even more, just a little advice, it helps me

You can build muscle with any number of sets, it's the progressive overload in intensity that counts. More sets are best for strength.

Think it depends a lot on what type of muscle growth you want. Plenty of evidence out there that ballistic lifts grow muscle as well. Lifting is so damn interesting !

If you re only after hypertrophy slow reps are a good way to work with limited resources otherwise explosive reps are far superior since you ll make better strength gains on top

This is pretty solid advice and will 100% work, another way to do it if you can maintain quality is to lower the amount of sets per week and per exercise for that matter to about half of that and take them all to absolute failure. Training each muscle once a week for 2-5 working sets to all out failure will be more than sufficient to stimulate growth

61, doing HEAVY DUTY/HIT.
Chest, shoulders Triceps Monday
Legs, back, biceps Friday
2 exercises per body part, 1 set to failure.
I used to do volume but as an older guy this suits me best. I spend about an hour a week in the gym. I have many different hobbies as a recent retiree, living currently in Nicaragua.

Exercise is like medicine, a smart person uses the minimum dose to get the job done, if it is not enough you could always just do more. That’s the whole concept of progressive overload.
