How do you think about death? Are you afraid?

Im not afraid to die because its quite peaceful. But I do want to live because as Hank Green put it, "Things are interesting, and I want to see them."

The main reason you don’t fear death is that you are young…I am 72 and perspective is everything. I am not afraid of being dead, but getting to death without mind-breaking agony is pretty scary. I don’t want to miss what’s coming next and that’s the pain that surrounds death for me.

I’m not afraid of dying but the manner of death is what concerns me.
Life - a temporary solution for a permanent problem…

I'm 60; I LOVE life; and I'm not afraid of death. I am afraid of elder abuse if I become vulnerable, and shitty treatment in the medical/elder care system, because I'm in the USA.

You should be, because you're going to reincarnate as a giant space slug in a galaxy 5 billion light years away.

I am absolutely terrified at the idea of potentially never getting to experience being alive again. When my grandad was in the process of dying he would often cry and tell us he didn't want to die; it was heart-breaking to see him battle with the realization that it was all coming to an end.

The Big Sleep is i think one of the best film titles ever. Says so much in two words. We go to sleep every night and we don't give it a second thought.

I started meditating in 2020. Since then, every year has felt like 10 years, which is how it was when I was a kid. Through meditation I have discovered that the mind is literally made out of time, or past and future. It is possible to reach the timeless present, and I think the closer you get to that, the slower time seems to go. I could be wrong, but this is what my experience seems to be telling me.

The feeling that time goes by faster when you are older in my opinion is due to the fact that people get complacent when they grow old. I am 58 and the last 15 years there was a lot more happening in my life than in the 15 years before. Therefore the last 15 years appear much longer to me. So the key to actually experience a longer time is to not get complacent.

Death is something i fear primarily due to how hard it is to comprehend in my mind. The concept of not existing feels wrong on some level, even if I'm thinking about time before i was born.
It feels weird even thinking back to before my first memories, when i was roughly 3.

Not afraid of it either although there are certain ways I would not want to die.

I love this moral quandry because it's both intelluctually sound and very emotional.

Looking at the facts by themselves, I know that my grandfather is dead. I know that his place of origin (East Prussia) no longer exists because all of Prussia was dissolved as a consequence of the World Wars.
Yet when I remember him, his legacy survives. Both his best and worst personality traits, his accomplishments and failures as a refugee in the German state of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania, shaped my family and how my mother's side of it thinks and acts today. He is gone, but we are still here.

Most People: Wow, this conversation has been great! Time just flew by!
Alex: Right now, here in the moment, no, I feel like time is running at its normal pace.

I thought a lot about death after my mom died. She had cancer so it was a slow process. After seeing what death truly looks like and feeling it's after effects It changed me. There were things in my life that I spent so much time doing by myself that suddenly stopped mattering as much. I slowly began spending more time with my friends and family. I realized that time really is short. You aren't promised a tomorrow so you should spend your time wisely.

My neighbour is going to be 102 years old in March, she tells me all the time she doesn't know why she is still here and is fed-up, she wants to go! I'm 68 and hope that I don't live as long as Lou, it's not a lot of fun at that age! Hearing fails, eyes fail, aches and pains, frailness sets in, one becomes helpless! I am not afraid to die, it's a natural process.
