My Carp Rig Setup - Spring Feeder for Carp Fishing American Style

preview_player
Показать описание
My carp rig setup using a spring feeder bolt rig. There are many rig options for carp fishing, but this is the rig I use 99% of the time. A mix of Euro and American carp fishing styles. A simple carp rig that can be great for beginners learning how to catch carp, or experienced carp fishermen as well.

I used this setup and a #4 or #6 Owner or Gamakatsu hooks with a soured corn pack bait. I caught loads of 3 to 8 pound channel catfish. Instead of the split-shot, I used a small bead and a silicone stop. I made my own spring feeders from 1/16th inch stainless steel tig wire and hollow plastic sucker sticks. I put 4 pieces of soured whole-kernel sweet corn on the hair rig. The soured corn seems to deter most carp, but the channel catfish love it. The carp that would bite it averaged 10 pounds. This provided me with many good catfish fries and a nice freezer full of catfish nuggets for the winter. Thanks for the information. 👍

I made the leader too long and spent so much time untangling it from the sinker. This video helped me out.

Learning so much from you. I just started carp fishing this year. Two trips and I’m hooked.

I love this rig, I've been using it successfully in South Africa & Swaziland. My PB is a 17 kg common carp, caught using spicy tiger nuts with fake corn. I also add cream style sweetcorn on my pack bait, it works beautifully

Hey Tom, living in the Netherlands, I have been fishing for carp since the last century. Especially the English method with boilies. But here on the big river I haven't been catching carp with boilies for years and that's why I started trying the American way with pack bait. Now I do catch carp with that, although they are not big so far. I also use your system with spring feeder and short leader. With plastic corn on the hook I also catch bream and roach here, but I am happy to be able to catch carp again here on the river. Your videos help me master this way of fishing. I now explain the way of fishing to a friend and try to draw others' attention to this way of fishing. Thanks Tom and tight lines!

Glad I found a no nonsense channel for affordable and easy to find rigs for carp! I’m new to carp fishing. I’ve been using a bait holder spring off of those catfish treble hooks at Walmart, and they kinda work. But I’m sure I could find a better spring than that at a hardware store! Haha
Probably will end up ordering those bait holders off eBay before too long

Hi Tom, living in São Paulo, Brazil. I´ll starter carp fishing this year. I’m going to try your rig. I´ve learned a lot. Thanks for the carp rig explanation.

I use the inline lead type method feeders that are cut in. It does help for sure to have a smaller leader because it'll sometimes fly up and get caught in the fins. But what I do is I do tuck the hook in the pack bait but I do it on the thinnest side so the heaviest side of the pack Bait ( cuz I could see the lead) will typically hit the bottom first keeping my hook bait on the top since it's the thinnest part. And so far that's worked pretty good. I still get some tangles when nuisance fish are touching it or I'm in a lot of weed which I fish quite a bit. But that's helped me out

My home town used to have a siren like that too! 😂

As a carp angler for over 20 years in the UK, its nice to see care taken to ensure the well being of the carp. I see so many Americans hating on them and in alot of cases rightfully so. However in certain places they should be protected and released in a way they can grow and get bigger for the next time you may catch them.
The rig is well put together, everything for a reason.
A point on the hooks, in my opinion you got it spot on, the sharpness is more important than anything but size, colour and shape and barb do play a part in a smaller way. We are only allowed barbless hooks where I fish so we don't leave huge holes in their mouths when you get the hook out.
Every angler I know uses different rigs and components but the foundations are pretty much the same.
Each to their own, do what makes you confident.

great job explaining your rig. i have looks at a lot of videos on rig design. they put the rig lay out about 6 feet from the camera.. i can see the lay out as they describe

We use a bolt rig up here in pa. Hook 6" line to swivel. Then another 6" piece of line that we slide a 1oz no roll flat sinker on to another swivel.. main line to this swivel. We ball
The pack bait around sinker.carp picks up bait an starts to swim off . Sinker hits main line swivel .which scares the carp. And he's off to the races with your hook in his mouth.im sure you already done this. Just
Thought I would mention it. nice work on this video tom

Why don't you use two hooks like in the paylakes? Thank you

Tom your info has been super helpful. Just really got into carp fishing here in colorado this year. Catching fish is a plus but day on the water is always great. Thank you sir

Have a question....ive noticed losing a lot of fish on the bolt as the fish somehow seem to get the weight jammed over structure and rip the hooks out...do you fish structure or is it plain silt?

Glad to hear you repeating in your video the importance of hook sharpness. I have been carp fishing for over thirty years and would say that is the number one reason for missed bites, pickups. Get to a water people already fishing you ask how is it going, there answer well a bit bit patchy, fish playing with the bait you know a bit shy today. Set up in the next swim, cast out, same bait (corn) new hook, thirty minutes later fish on the bank. After the second fish change hook, keep catching, they are convinced you are using a miracle bait no just sharp hooks. Took me a while in my younger days to work it out though.

in india use same spring fedders but no one use BOILIES😁😅
We use fake rubber/spong Round ball like boiles and hook gape is same small
but Balance the hook with soldring Lead wire so hook no too much upp in water

Do these boilies dissolve over time? I use premade currently that I use all day long (or until swallowed).
