I was using pedigree chum mixers 40yrs ago, before it became popular. A friend and I were fishing a lake near Oulton park where there was a carp fishing match. I was having a fish a chuck. Nobody else was catching, but I emptied the place. Two guys fishing the match came over and I gave them some of my bait, and they caught.
I have to admit, I stole the idea from a friend who was using cat buiscuits, I only had dogs, so thought I would try the dog biscuits. At the time the chum mixers were chum mixers with gravy. I soaked the mixers in warm water to make them spongy, so it stayed on the hook, but the hook pulled straight out on the strike. I was fishing 8 to 12 feet from the bank ( actually it was a wall, about 3-4 feet deep.)
It was the best day carp fishing I’ve ever had.

I love my tost paste.
Get sliced fresh tost bread.
Pour water and liquid smell of your choice (i use scopex) in bucket.
Soak toast bread 3-4 seconds in spiced water, and then put slices in another empty bucket.
When every slice is soaked, mash them with fingers, and sprinkle it with few handfull of groundbait until you get paste (depending how much groundbait you put, its stiffer or looser).
I use paste around wire spiral 25-45g freerunning feeders.
Because of bread, liquid, and groundbait smell combined, fish really like it😁. Hookbait can be anything (worms, pinkies, corn, pellet...)

I started carp fishing in 2001 when i was 18 . My rigs were very simple and mainly used natural or small baits . Now i have all the latest gear and baits but sometimes you can't beat using a float and a worm for bait 😂

As a US carper, bullhead catfish and bluegill are the bane of my existence. Definitely going to try some fake corn along with my strawberry jello/panko bread crumb/sweetcorn mix and see if that helps keep bait on my rig!

I am 55 years old, and I learned to fish with bamboo rods and how to float the cork. The best lures are the ones that are homemade. I use a lot of corn and bait. Grated cheese, honey, vanilla, strawberry syrup, banana, cherry, anise. This is in the summer. In winter I use worms, maggots, fish kibble and anchovy oil. The boiles? I'll leave them to those who don't know how to fish. 😅 Because the real fisherman must also know how to make bait

I've had good results with lupin seeds, which I understand are popular with French carp anglers. I prepare them much like other particles, 48-hour soak, followed by 40 minutes in a pressure cooker. You can mount two or three on a hair rig, but I've found just a single seed, hair-rigged, works best for me, regularly catching me commons to 17lb. on my local water.
