UniFi Dream Router - THIS is ALL you need!

Just upgraded my USG to the UniFi Dream Router!

"Black Hole" is right! I also started with just an access point and Edge Router.... then I had to get a Cloud Key Gen2+... Then the doorbell... then the USG.... then the PoE Switch... then the UDM-Pro... and now more cameras and more! Great video and very well put together!

The trade off of ditching the cloud key in favor of the UDR makes sense for me for the majority of my customers who don’t use UniFi cameras or the other suites. By saving money on the 1tb HDD in the cloud key and instead adding router/4 port switch, AP AND 2 Poe inserters is a huge no brainer while also being cheaper than a UDM.

If you have gig internet or above, a udm pro/SE is a better option

Most homes never need more than 2 APs unless the 3rd is dedicated for outdoor areas. I had a customer who insisted on 4 U6LR in a 6k square foot home and I had to set them all at low transmit power otherwise devices would never handoff from AP to AP (which were all installed as far away from each other as possible)

I finished my home network early this year with cameras and APs and can't tell you how happy I am with it. Perfect! I have a network like yours (no 10G switch though) and want to move from my Edge Router X (Which is a solid little device) to a Unifi Router to take full advantage of my Unifi AP's and the controler. I was leaning to the Dream Machine PRO or SE. After watching this, UDR it is. Thanks for a great video Samir!

The UDR doesn’t have a Multi-Gig WAN port so can only support internet connections up to 700mbs, it does clearly state this on the specs.

Oh no! I guess I’m starting to go down the black hole! I have a router from my ISP running one ubiquity access point. I was having some issues with that so I was about to order a standalone, ubiquiti router and another standalone access point, but why bother with all that when you can get this thing with all that integrated in one device for about the same price. I went ahead and ordered one. Great video btw.

The UniFi doorbell has good video and the antennas are better than the competition, however the app sucks compared to ring and nest. No way to change the ringtone and it inherits the network name. They need a separate doorbell only app in addition to UniFi protect.

Thanks to your video today I have finally ordered this router to replace my old one. I am using Ubiquity products at work (UDM DreamMachine Pro & Amplifi Alien (this one is the sickest one I have ever seen) and love the way the look and operate.

I was depressed when the UDR was perma out of stock then LUCKILY found out that Unifi parental control pretty much sucks (I am literally shocked btw) and so I quickly switched for a Synology router with amazing parental control

The speed limits of your USG, is because you have the "small" one... Unify have a USG that can handle the higher ISP speeds with the intruder detection active. In other words, you got the wrong USG for your internet speeds, if you want the intruder detection.

Thank you very much for the detailed information! I have a question regarding forced disconnection: Is there a way to set the time period for automatic disconnection myself with UDR? I am a customer with 1&1 and need to renew my connection every 24 hours.

UDR comes with 256GB and can run three apps simultaneously
