It's unfortunate that people's response to your message was, "Okay. I'll draw ugly girls instead of hot girls." FACEPALM! Look for more appealing stories to tell other than just, "Hey, this girl is hot; look at her face."

I haven't been drawing long, but when I started I watched tutorials which were mostly geared toward "anime" style looks; after some time, because I love watching animated films and reading all sorts of comics, I started to find other drawing and coloring styles appealing.

I've been trying to shift away from what I started out with; I still have issues with drawing poses so I'm guilty of drawing the same style, but I'm working on it. I admire people who can draw natural looking poses....fan of Studio Ghibli films as well...especially how matural the characters move. 😀

Same face syndrome in art is ten times worse than drawing ugly people once and a while. plus beauty is subjective. I'm attracted to thicker women, but I've drawn all body types (skinny, curvy, obese, muscular).

Honestly I'm glad you do these videos. I don't want to just post art on the internet and I need to get better if I want to work in any industries. These videos really help a lot.

I really enjoyed hearing about the part about too quick to jump into stylization, thank you! I struggled from that quite a bit and it is quite hard to tell whether or not am i going into it too early or do i just lack confidence about my work. Currently im going back and forth between stylization and realism to make sure that i am solidifying my fundamentals while applying it to the stylization, but sometimes i wonder how would i know if im ready for stylization.

This video is a hidden gem. I've been doing art for around a year and a half now. I got really good at the fundamentals, color theory, etc, but I've been so busy developing those foundational skills that I haven't necessarily cared if my art looked good or not. But now, I've been trying to improve to the next level, and I definitely feel like the concept of "appeal" should be my next goal. My art has immediately improved as I've made that my goal, this video just really made something click in my brain, so thank you!

Woah you worked on WONDLA?! I had no idea this was being adapted into an animation... I loved those books, I haven't heard anyone mention them since the early 2000s. SO excited to see that!

Making things readable for viewers has always been so difficult for me and it’s so daunting when you’re about to go into a storytelling art field. I tend to drift towards more realistic proportions for my characters because I’m so afraid people won’t understand why a character looks the way it does. However, I always wished I had work that was more exaggerated and fun because that’s what my eye drifts towards. I’d love to know if there is any advice I could get for something like that. Your videos are extremely helpful and informative for students! Thank you

I now understand what you’re saying. Your art is really appealing, relaxed and fun. Yet it’s not that overdone pretty women art trend. Really great vid and info!

This definitely helped a lot. I realized I'm super insecure about my art. I really do need to get out of my comfort zone! Also I'm super inconsistent with my art style, like... it changes everyday 😭 Do you have any tips on how to deal with this?

If someone could source this quote I'm about to paraphrase, "I spent the first half of my career learning what to put into my art, and the second half of it learning what to leave out."

At my current stage in art, there's a lot more for me to learn on the technical side of things but what really makes the biggest improvements is when I'm dialed in to the more 'Design' aspects of my work.

Having a good design for your overall piece is way more important than having an image that may look clean/nice.

I often want to draw in perspective but I often struggle finding good references to use.

My art is ugly (to me at least) because I lack the fundamentals and I am very restricted on what I can do well. I mostly can do faces ok and bodies ok as long there's not much movement or expression. I want to start making comics and short 2D animations but my skills make me not want to do that because I don't know perspective, backgrounds, color theory etc.

I plan to major in graphic design for uni next year, and every uni website I look at has a degree that leads to graphic design under a different name- fine arts, studio arts, design, and so on- could you help and explain what I should be looking for when trying to find a degree that can put me on the graphic design career path?
