HELP! FiTech Issues!!!

It has happened to me. I'm having issues with my FiTech and I can't figure it out.

**NOTE: If you buy a FiTech from Amazon, buy it from FITech, not a third party or FiTech will not be under warranty if something goes wrong**

The primary issue is the hand held controller isn't working and I just installed a new Cam. So because the controller doesn't work, I can't go in and adjust any of my settings. My battery is full, its not a low battery issue. I have the battery on a charger, and I get 11.4 volts while cranking (I tried to crank it just to see if it would fire with the factory settings).

I'm also having issues with the unit cutting out and dying on me. And I think the AFR settings are way off.

Any help is appreciated!

Put the FiTech on my 86 Chevy C20. Had a very mild 350 Vortec built with around 325hp. Had a 700r4 tranny put in(that was the best move !) The Thermoquad was ok, not great so I had a local shop put the FiTech on it. Such a bad mistake. No support. Been all over youtube trying other peoples fixes. But I haven’t had any luck. Mine still runs terrible. 11mpg, will hardly run when cold. Spits & sputters at idle. Put a new GM performance HEI dist in. The timing is right on. So I give up, ordered a new Edelbrock AVS2 650cfm carb. You have more will power than I do. Thanks for the videos !!!!

Same problems, I just installed Sniper. Easier starting and seem to have more low end power. Still doing some tuning will try and keep updated.

I put the fitech on my 67 Bronco. It's my daily driver and it runs great. I spent very little time tuning it after the install. The only thing that I need to tune still is the idol is a little erratic when you first start on cold mornings.

Display problem may be you have a bad ground issue, double check FITECH mounting stud ground I ran a direct ground to battery from stud. I also recently had a cutting off issue that turned out I had a blocked fuel pressure regulator. Trash from old fuel lines. Very easy to change on side of FITECH, 3 min job. Made a huge improvement! Hope you find the issue thanks for all your help.

Had a similar issue with my Bronco/FITech. Turned out to be a bad ground on the electric fuel pump----engine would cut out and die---only to start a few minutes later.

Thank you for the videos, I am very curious on what the fix is for the fitech issues you are having. If I may suggest, I think a video on everything you had to go through to correct your issues would be very valuable to our community. There are infinite problems brought to light on YouTube, but solutions are a little more rare. People come to the videos for help and solutions, hopefully we can find one for your fitech. Thank you

I have the Holley sniper in my 75 and they have similiar issues - they all have issues. Part of the problem is they pot the ecu in the front of the throttle body and it's a suceptible to heat, vibration and electrical interference. I would 1) move your coil away from the ecu, mount it to one of the ends of the heads. 2) make sure your efi power is coming off the battery direct and has no iffy connections 3) make sure your grounds from battery to engine and frame to engine are solid 4) make sure to separate your control wires from any ignition control, power or spark cables. Apparently according to holley Rf interference is a big deal. 5) I would check all your wiring for loose crimps or any irregularities.

My sniper works sporadically when the spark control module sits near the alternator charge cable and gets all buggy. Once I move it it seems to correct this issue. If all this fails then I would say the issue is with the ecu on the actual throttle body..but I kinda doubt that since it was working before you took it apart. My money is on some wiring issue or rf interference. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Your black screen hand is ECM related. Fitech replaced my ECM and the problem was corrected. Hope it is not too late for a replay. The bad problem is that after I got the unit back the unit started flooding at 3000 RPM. That has now changed to the spot that it floods on startup and will not run period.

I am actually considering buying the Edelbrock efi for my early bronco this winter. I can’t wait to see you thoughts on it. The port injection should have the best drive ability compared to FiTech and Holley Sniper.

Have you subscribed to the fitech efi users facebook page? Those guys know their stuff.

A local shop here said based souly on his own experiences. That he doesn't care for the Fitech units because the computer is mounted to the throttle body and overheats causing issues.

Man that sucks. Every time I am about to bite the bullet and get one of these systems I change my mind. Other than the embarrassing hot start sometimes, my holley just runs too good. I spend so much time solo in remote areas I just don't feel confident in converting to fuel injection. Do the Edelbrock.

Once you try the EDL or The Sniper, you will never wanna go back to F.Tech.
I speak from my owne experience.

Just stumbled across this video, and yes I know its almost 2 years old. But, I had FiTech Go Street unit that did the exact same thing awhile back. I also tried the new controller but it did not fix it. I chased the problem back to the ECU in the throttle body. I was able to get mine to work by running the tiny hand held red wire from the plug to an ignition switched 12 volt source. Thank you for the videos that you have posted here, they have been a huge help to me troubleshooting my system.

Im skeerd now! Not going FiTech anylonger! Too many negatives in the airwaves. Im leaning strongly Holley Sniper Q-Jet EFI.
Thanks for all your contributions to the subject. The good, the bad, and now crap. Id be done as well.

1) blinking handheld makes me want to go play Nintendo.

2) out of curiosity, I know some folks run a ground wire to the back of the fitech. Did you do that?

3) I heard once or twice that having the coil in the place can cause issues.

4) there is a FiTech group on Facebook. Did you ask there?

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator has some debris in it. That would cause your cutting out and fuel smell. You can take it off and clean the inside it's been a common problem.

Dude, unfortunately I have a Fitech that has still NEVER worked. They were hard to get ahold of and then kept my unit for a month. Then sent me.the wrong one back. Biggest issue is that I changed the tank to be a Sherman with in tank pump. Do I can't even change back to a carb without spending hundreds in regulators. I have given them the benefit of the doubt but I think there needs to be a class action suit. And shame on WH and others for selling them. Again, 2 years and multiple calls and even warranty work and mine is a huge paper weight
