5 Reasons Not to Buy FiTech EFI System

I give my top 5 reasons why you shouldn't buy the FiTech EFI system.

I have put a few 1,000 miles on the 400hp FiTech Efi system. Enough time to see the issues and week points of the system.

1. Self learning tuning is so/so, fitech does not list there software updates.
2. Not enough info on FiTechs website, you have to go through forums to learn how to tune.
3. Cheap/bad connectors going into the hand held, get in the way and fall out.
4. White screen on start up is intermittent.
5. Gauges on hand held do not automatically show up after start up and poor graphics

I am not a tuner and you may have different issues or you may not be effected by these issues, so please don't blow me up if your system runs differently.

Thanks for watching and I hope this info was useful!

Check out the FiTech system for yourself.

Try playing around with your ignition system. Have your distributor recurved and increase your spark plug gap and try a colder heat range. I've built lots of motors and sometimes the simplest things like ignition retuning can give you better throttle response. Good luck.

i'm so glad you brought up these stupid freaking connectors!!! i started with the 600hp version. now i have the 1200hp on my 6.0ls and its much easier to tune, but i get same white/black screen as you. there is much better support if you call the guys at fitech. great presentation all around my friend. ty

While it is a self tuning unit, really all’s that is there for is to give you a base tune and if you’re looking for performance you won’t see much difference compared to a carb.

I’m actually an air/fuel specialist for performance engines. Other than purchasing the tune upgrade there’s a couple things you should do if you want to get your best efficiency out of the engine. You should open up your ECU/PCM whatever you want to call it and tune your specs from there to get the fuel dialed in to the engines needs. And if you haven’t already, put a digital ignition box on it so you can control your rpm’s depending on how you’re driving it, that should take care of the shifting issues. But a must do before anything else is to put the inline FiTech fuel-pump offered by FiTech for that specific system along with a pressure regulator. In my opinion that’s your issue. I could be wrong but that’s just some advice.

i had a dual throttle body system on a 871 blower, i had to return, injectors pulsed with my blinkers, wipers. it filled my engine full of gas twice before we figured out the injectors would pulse even when ignition was off, the tech and everyone there was rude no help at tunning, got fast xfi now love it

Regarding your decell issue. Have you got the latest firmware update on the handheld unit?

Not exactly sure why my comment didn’t complete. Damn iPhone. I said all of that other stuff to say this....Most OEM fuel lines are marginally adequate for their original applications. There’s really no such thing as too big for fuel supply/return lines within reason. Same is true for power supply/ground conductors. A wire might look big enough but some manufacturers use thick insulation on their wire and cable products. Always verify the AWG size of the conductors. Never use that discount speaker wire left over from your Audio install. The cheap stuff is copper clad aluminum (CU/AL) or tinned conductors with abnormally high electrical resistance. It will get hot under load. The additional heat increases resistance while decreasing its efficiency as an electrical conductor.
I’ve owned my ‘70 Mustang Mach 1 for 35 great years. The factory engine is a 351 Cleveland with 4-V heads. For clarification, that’s 4 venturi or barrel carb. The 351 C heads designed for 4-V induction have large 2.19” intake valves and 1.71” diameter exhaust. The intake ports measure 2.50”H X 1.750”W. Intake port volume is 242cc’s and becomes substantially smaller past the inlet for increased charge velocity with an average cross section of 2.9 square inches. The Ford Engineers definitely had Racing in mind with the heads tuned for optimal power at 6400 rpm’s @ 3750 feet per minute mean piston speed.... and it worked quite well. Small block Ford engines equipped with race prepared 351C 4-V heads dominated Pro Stock Drag Racing through the 70’s and early 80’s. The only way the NHRA could stop it from pissing off the GM and Chrysler crybabies was to implement a 500 cubic inch max engine displacement in the eighties. Same for NASCAR. Cleveland headed combinations won while setting records everywhere.
Since There’s certainly nothing wrong with being young. I highly recommend it but occasionally a young gear head wants to argue that Ford didn’t make a 4-Valve production head in 1970. Good call !
My apologies for dragging this out. My apologies to 426 HEMI GUYS and

I have a 69 Camaro Z28 ZZ4 Crate Motor 350/385 H.P. 2 FiTecs later I now have a Holly Sniper I had the ECU burned out on the first unit that they replaced under warranty the 2nd unit was installed and it just had idling and stalling issues even after I installed the holly sniper fuel tank
be aware that the fuel system works on a siphon system the fuel pump has to be lower than the fuel tank the whole thing has been a nightmirror for me. I now have all Holly Sniper EFI and wish I had bought the Edelbrock Oh well I did not do enough research

So part of your problem is the dual plane intake. I’ve used the Fitech and Holley systems and they don’t tune or learn properly because they vacuum or manifold pressure signal isn’t even between banks.

I actually took mine off and bolted my BG 750DP back on my race car the other day because I was getting dead spots on hard acceleration and it wasn't a pump shot issue because the only way to cure it was to roll out of the throttle all together and then reapply it. only once in every 20 minutes of racing! weird . my carb never did this, and really poor service and no info or comprehensive manual.

Your power cable is to small and you need to solder your power connections and have twice as big a fuse than it needs

Don’t believe the hype that any tool can install. It requires a professional to be done correctly!😧. Every error is most likely the application and the level of knowledge of the installer.

Plus the ECU is in the front taking all the heat right in the face

Holly makes a great carburetor get away from the electronics go back to Old School send it back tell him it's defective

That things breathing through a straw. Put a bigger air cleaner and let it relearn and tune its self.
