It's a bit of a tricky condition to diagnose, as there are several other injuries that can cause very similar pain. This is probably the most informative YouTube video I have watched about bursitis.

One of the best on this bursitis topic. Lots of YouTube clips over-simplify this issue and worse still - to have a video title like: 5 minutes to heal you hip pain!

Best best video on YouTube for my problem. Over 6 months of terrible pain. Hundreds of pain pills - every few hours - every day. But the pain is just starting to subside now. I am on my fourth day of no pain pills - finally. Was able to walk outside in the snow today. I am doing mild stretches and message with my knuckles. That seems to help it all relax. Thanks for the great video which describes my problem exactly. Thanks for the information. You are an angel. God Bless.

Thank you Maryke.
Very informative and exactly what I needed to hear right now, since my ultrasound has come back positive for bursitis.
It’s 31st of December and the physio isn’t back till the 4th.
Im back at work on the 9th and want to make sure I give myself the best opportunity to be able to walk by then.
Wished I watched this earlier as I have aggravated my bursitis by trying to stretch the area to the point where later that day I couldn’t walk, stand or sleep without feeling extreme pain.
I will try the ball massage method against the wall to help sooth the surrounding muscles.
Hadn’t I of watched this video today, I’d still be trying to stretch it out 🤦‍♂️
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏

I've learned more from this video than I have learned from my PT!!! Thank you.

This helped me so much to really understand what is/was going on.

Also, your description of how to massage the area is exactly what I felt and how I managed to relax the muscles there, good to hear I wasn't doing anything stupid 😬

This is by far the most helpful and informative advice I have found on the internet, so many physios get you to stretch and mine has been getting worse. Thank you

This is extremely helpful for a runner who has been nursing a growing pain in the hip area, now clearer. Great Job, thanks.

I know this was 2 years ago, but I am so appreciative of you for sharing your knowledge. This helped me so much. Thank you!

You're the first person to explain all the variables that can contribute to bursitis. I saw 2 orthopedic docs and neither mentioned anything you just said. I was left confused wondering how I suddenly had excruciating hip pain out of nowhere. I was given a cortisone shot because I could barely walk but neither doc tried to get to the bottom of the issue.

This video has given me the most detailed and clearly laid out picture of my hip bursitis so far. Although I have gotten, I believe, a correct diagnosis of hip bursitis by my physician, seen several physios and explored numerous videos on the subject, this video is gives me by far the most thorough and comprehensive information on my problem thus far. Now I am ‚armed‘ with enough information to review my habits to see if some are causing the pain, to avoid certain movements and postures, and can develop a game plan for my treatment. I am currently in Thailand, where I am undergoing acupuncture for various health issues. The acu doctor has included needle treatment surrounding the sore hip, not directly on it. Ive been astounded that it seems to be helping-your mention of dry needling/acupuncture as being effective for some helps me confirm that the slight improvement is due to the recent acupuncture. Still not sure if my case requires strengthening or releasing….will try out some things. Thank you

This was so helpful, Maryke, thank you! You helped me identify the cause. Clam shells and leg lifts! I started doing them in recent weeks and it was after that when the lateral hip pain started. Another YouTube channel by two well-known PT guys actually RECOMMENDED doing stretches for this lateral hip pain! Well I've learned from past experience with those two to always question their advice and do more research since I've found some of what they say to be questionable, very general, and even a bit careless at times. Anyway, I've stopped doing the leg stretches and clam shells because you make perfect sense and I now know that this led to my problem. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Your videos are so informative and helpful!

I'm so happy I found you, I've gotten injections in my hip, I even went to a pain management clinic and got an epidural. Nothing has helped and no doctor has ever given me as much information about my pain as you just did. Thank you so much. I now have knowledge that I can use when I see the doctor again.

Great video. You offer a lot of useful info to self diagnose how such an injury may have started, how one may still be inadvertently aggravating it, and tactics to resolve it.

Baie, baie dankie! Bells were going off in my head as I listened to you! This video was 10 times more valuable than the appointment I just had with an NHS Physio, which left me confused and just holding a leaflet of excercises to try - some of which seemed to make the pain worse - and now I think I am begining to understand why... She made no mention of shoes either - but I now realise the new pair of Skechers I recently bought could be part of the problem. My thanks again for the video (BTW I'm in Cambridge UK but, if not for my present pain, i would now be enjoyimg a holiday in Cape Town!!)
