Judges be studying their butts off before the next big event

PSA don’t “destroy” a battle you want to flip, that just puts it into the graveyard!

Hearing the words put a battle onto the battlefield has me deeply entertained.

You DO get to flip battle token copies. This was a change to tokens specifically because of the new incubate mechanic.
This applies to all double sided tokens now.
You want to make an izzet werewolf copy deck. You can do that.

Since, MoM token copies of double sided permanents have a backside so that mythos copy would flip perfectly fine. If that weren't the case incubate wouldn't work

And here I was thinking Planeswalkers were too complicated all these years...

Isn't the actual reason you can't flip battle copies because you need to exile them before you transform them, so they fizzle when they're put into exile? That's why you can flip Incubators but not Battles because token copies now actually do have backsides in the new rules as far as I know.

Edit: As others have pointed out Thoralf was referring to cards that become copies rather than tokens that become copies although the same reasoning applies (since they get exiled they lose their copied properties), but copies don't have a backside unlike tokens.

Interestingly the copy ruling is very relevant for invasion of alara

The cloning rule was changed with the new Incubator token. All tokens have the appropriate backside of the original card.

I played with Invasion of Ravnica in SCG Richmond in April 23. A judge ruled that the card Mystic Barrier prevents players from attacking battles entirely

got it. Don't make your battles into creatures, and don't get taxed into not casting it.

It‘s super simple and Thoralf only has to talk like a machine gun to fit all of it into a YouTube short 😂

Thanks Toffel! I had literally no idea these rules existed

What’s interesting is that all the battles in this set have the same subtype (this was to limit confusion about the new card type), but I got a bunch of ideas for how other subtypes of battles could work and WotC can’t look at fan submissions so I got nowhere to tell anyone lol. Time to hop on a custom card maker to come up with some implementations of my own ideas…

Correct me if im wrong, but there was a rules change where tokens can have backsides now (because of incubate), so if you made a token copy of a battle, im pretty sure you get to cast the back. Would only work with tokens tho

So what happens if I turn my werewolf into a battle and then fulfill the battle's flip trigger?

Could you explain the last part again? You said if the battle takes lethal damage, you don't get to flip it. I'm confused.

It seems like Mutate is going to have a new friend in the overcomplex and forgetable mechanics club...

I dont understand the last part he mentions. Is he meaning if someone has made a battle into a creature and it dies as a creature? That it has to be a battle when the last defense counter is removed?

I was thinking that now the copy have à backside so we can to cast it ?
