In the book "the loom of language" it says that there are three steps in language learning: 1 spoken, 2 reading, 3 writing. Language is taught backwards in School 1 written, 2 reading, 3 spoken, this makes language learning virtually impossible. If you give us the spoken word in bold contrast with a picture of the item then spoken spanish association with item follows in the mind

The military teaches that in all languages if you learn the 400-600 most common spoken words you will understand 80% of all conversations. I would love a lesson on the bad curse words in Spanish. When I worked with mexican immigrants I repeated their words not knowing that every other word was a curse word and it did not turn out well.

Started learning Spanish last year, after a dip of months, really started serious little under 2 months ago with daily exercises using Duolingo and recently starting using Babbel too. Kind of like that Babbel uses a lot of talking and conversations and a bit of grammer explaining, the review part is nice too that u can choose speaking/flashcard/writing or listening.
And Duolingo gives a lot everyday sentences which for me make it feel like a decent app combo.

This month i even got Netflix, i know im late haha, purely to have a wide selection of things to watch in Spanish. Was deciding between Lingopie or Netflix but Netflix gave a whooole lot more options on things to watch.

I was thinking about what u said with watching things in the kind of Spanish u wanna learn, and i would really wanna focus as much on Colombian Spanish (Went on vacation once and wanna go back there lots more)
I find a few things that are made in Colombia, and rewatching Narcos helps too
