How To Reverse Park (Parallel Parking). Easy Tips - Driving Test Essentials

How to do reverse parking step-by-step guide. The object of this parking manoeuvre is to parallel park behind another vehicle within the space of 2 car lengths whilst looking out for other road users. You might have to reverse park on your UK practical driving test.

A lot of people fear parallel parking, but once you have some reliable reference points then it should be easier. These practical driving test tips will hopefully help. There are a lot of different reverse parking techniques. In this video we have a look at the 1-2-1 method of parking a car. But, no method is perfect and actually using your judgement is better than any method.

How to do parallel parking - The 1-2-1 method is:
One whole turn to the left to bring the back of the car in.
Two whole turns to the right to bring the front in.
One whole turn to the left to straighten the wheels.

If you feel that you're getting too close to the kerb, then steer more to right.

Too far from the kerb then steer more to the left.

Observe around continuously, stopping for any approaching road user.

If all else fails, then drive forward and perfect the parking.

We really hope this video helps. If it does, then please give us a 'thumbs up' like and subscribe for our latest videos.

so for everyone watching this i took my driving test monday and passed! yay. i watched so many videos to get it right because sometimes i turn too much being too far from the curb or turn not enough and would hit the curb. but this video pretty much explains how it really is done. just making sure when your turning point is parallel parking is what to focus on and golden. ugh. having my license feels great. sort of. now its time for bills haha.

Nice and clear. I wish I'd had this 40 years ago when I learnt to drive, but on the other hand parallel parking wasn't on the test in those days! Our compulsory elements were reverse around a corner, turn in the road using forward and reverse gears (ie 3 point turn--although you could have as many 'points' as needed), hill start (we had to do it on a railway bridge as we didn't have any hills) and emergency stop (which I didn't need to do as I had successfully demonstrated it by avoiding a suicidal cyclist early in the test).

Parking was something you just figured out by yourself (or asked your dad who could always do it perfectly) after passing the test. I still find myself sometimes heading too sharply towards the kerb or stranded too far away but especially at night when I can't see the kerb in the mirror. It probably doesn't help that I am also squeezing into spaces little longer than my car! I don't think I've ever seen a gap two car lengths long that didn't have yellow lines in it!

I had my test today and this was the manoeuvre I was given to do, thanks to help from my driving instructor of course, but also the help of these videos, I managed to pass! I watched all your test tips videos several times before my test and I think they helped calm me for my test.

Have to admit this is my favorite maneuver, My instructor taught me this way and he calls it Lovely Red Roses easy way to remember the way to steer it. Don't think i've ever made a mistake while learning this one.

I've saved and deleted other videos on this topic as this is the best and the narration has a calming effect on me thank you very much!

Thank you so much for your videos Chris. They’ve been so helpful. I passed my test yesterday and got this manoeuvre. Despite going a bit wide I had the confidence to correct it when I saw it going a bit pear shaped and aced it.
