Back up until you hit the car behind, then go forward until you hit the car in front, then back up until you are about equal between both cars. If the space isn't big enough push the cars forward or backwards with your bumper until you have enough room to park comfortably.

WORDS OF CAUTION FOR LEARNERS - I am an Auto Body Painter, repairing and painting cars for 42 years. My words of cautions of all you learners is this: If the space you are trying to parallel park into, is not big enough, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PARK IN IT. If you scratch the Bumper of the car in front of you, that car might be able to video record your license plate and depending on what car bumper you scratched, you could be liable for $1000's in repairs, bills or lawsuits. I have painted 100's of such scratched bumpers. Look for another better and safer parking spot, even if you have to walk more or pay for parking. But its still good to learn to parallel park, as long as the risk is low. If you have a passenger in your car, send the passenger to check the spacings in the front and rear, as you park. Remember, if you scratch or hit the car in front or behind you, you will be liable for fixing the cars you scratched, and now your bumper is scratched up as well. Besides, the cheapest Mobile Car touch up repairs can cost you about $300, in a Body Shop that cost you about $800 to $1500. And if the owner is very fussy and picky, he might also demand that you pay through your insurance, which can screw you up, and he or she might want to take his car to a Very Good Body Shop. Also if you have successfully parked, IF POSSIBLE, leave a bigger space between your car and the car in front of you, as this space if crucial when you are moving out of the parking space. But that depends if the original cars in front and behind you, have changed. Hope I have not scared you Learners too much. Better be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Holy cow, it works! Today was the first time I've ever parallel-parked with an actual sense of what I was doing, not just inching back and forth. This is a great video, short and to the point. Thank you.

My bigger problem is how to stop other cars driving behind me and then blowing horns while I stop parallel with (here) white car and they stop just behind me parallel with my parking spot while there is a busy traffic in both directions.

I moved into an apartment complex six months ago that only has on-street parallel parking. Fortunately I’ve never minded that kind of parking. The hardest time is at night, when I can’t see as much as daytime (I know…duh).
This video was quite helpful.

This is magic to me. I can't parallel park. Unfortunately, I'm physically unable to do that :) Now I have a car with the park assist system and I still can't:( Once, when I tried to parallel park, the Concierge came out of the apartment building and said that he had been watching me for a few minutes and couldn't stand it any longer. He said: "Give me the keys to the car and I will cut your torment short and park it" and parked my car :)

When my friend was taking the final section of her road test, the parallel parking, she just pushed the button to let the car parallel park itself with her hands on the wheel of course, faking the perfect turns. Very bold move and she passed the test.

also a possibility, but I learned a simpler and faster variant back in 1990:
The beginning is the same, but you don't look at the license plate but at the curb. As soon as this is visible, the steering wheel is turned completely and at the same time you continue to drive backwards. as soon as you are parallel to the sidewalk, you look to see if you are already in the middle, otherwise you adjust.

THANK 😱 I've been driving since 1996 and in 2023, I still don't know how to parallel park!!! 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦 I am so embarrassed everytime I try to park in my neighborhood bc in that moment, I just know (well, I imagine)that a neighbor somewhere is looking out of their window cracking up at me, likely saying " when is that woman gonna learn how to park." I imagine all kinds of thoughts in my head, I truly imagine most of neighbors just running to their windows at the same time, when I pull up to park, some of them even taking bets on how long it's going to take me.😫😫😫🤦. I don't like when people are only wanting to be nice and courteous and therefore will wait until I've parked before just going around me once they see my reverse signal, as I'm preparing to park. 😩😩😩 Their kindness only makes me nervous.😩 I need the entire street cleared and everyone inside when I park🤭😆😂😂 (though they're still watching me from inside of their home....in my head). 🤦 I'm always shooing people to go around me. 😩🤦🤦🤦🤦 I also very often keep circling our block trying to find the largest spot possible, so that I will not have to do any maneuvering. I'm so pathetic. I'm surprised no one has recorded me and sent my non parking self viral. 🤭🤭🤭

After taking my driver's test twice and failing bc I couldn't park, I was ELATED when I passed it the third time but, y'all, I know for absolute certain that the guy just passed me, I did not pass. 🤭 I guess he figured I could drive and eventually I would get the hang of parking. If only he could see me now. SO glad he let me go! 😳

THANK YOU, AGAIN!!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

This vid is for if there is a lot of space to park. When the parking spot is 'tight' (which is more common here in the netherlands) you can start to turn in when your side mirrors pass the bumper of the car instead passing the car fully before turning in like it's stated in the video.

A good tip is also to stop a little forward instead of parallel to the parked car so you can start adjusting your steering wheel torwards the parked car a bit so your car enters slightly diagonally in. That way it can even park with a single reverse if all the rest of the steps are done correctly.

The principle as self is shown correct. My practice in Europe brought to the same mode of back up parking.
The problem begins when the tolerance is less than 2 feet.
When the tolerance 1 foot or less, better to find some parking even if that kinda half mile away.
Though I had seen in the Bristol, UK some young lady with a shop cart had parked using 1 foot tolerance in 1 minute.
My jaws dropped while I was watching the procedure😆😆😆

My sister asked for help moving into dorms at uni. Of coarse she asked me for I drive a double cab short bed truck. (6’8” bed, not those wanna be 4’ trucks ) So I pulled up with only side mirror visibility and in one swift move parallel park. The kids around us also moving stopped and applauded 😅.

I get very close to the parked car (my passenger mirror might be 2 inches from their mirror) and cut the wheel hard when I'm almost/less than halfway back. This will get you closer to the curb particularly if the front/parked car is already far away or too far from the curb.
(it's much easier to park behind a car that's already very close to the curb in other words)

In my driver's education class, 1972, we had a book that spelled it out, it's so easy to do. When I got my permit my dad would have me drive a 1967 Buick Electra 225, a big car. And yes it was a snap to park. I can do this with any car or pickup truck, even a 10 passenger limo.
