Positive Company Culture Key Steps to Create and Maintain It

You know, when people talk about positive company culture these days, they talk about the hot topic, popular items like ping pong tables in the office, allowing dogs to come to work, unlimited PTO and all these other outrageous things. However, it can be so much more simple than that. Let's dive then to the true foundational ways to build and maintain a positive company culture. A positive company culture always starts at the top. It's really important that the executive team develop core company values that reflect the values they want to see in the workplace. And these need to be taken seriously and actually embedded into everything the company does from the company's policies and procedures in the handbook to how they communicate with the employees. For example, if one of the core values is honesty, it's really crucial that upper management hold themselves to that standard and are always honest with their team. Another way to maintain a positive workplace environment is to always communicate openly and effectively with all levels of staff, all vendors and all clients and customers. Poor communication is one of the top causes of workplace conflict. It can lead to assumptions, misunderstandings, gossip and so much more.

If you're finding your team struggles with communicating with each other and there's a lot of misunderstandings at work, it may be time to schedule an effective communications training with your team. The last thing I want to talk about is respect in the workplace. It's really important to approach any situation with at least some level of respect for the other person. If someone makes a mistake, remember that we're all human and mistakes are natural, address the situation together and come to a resolution. If there's a lack of performance, maybe there's something going on in that person's life that's affecting their mindset. At least give them an opportunity to explain themselves before laying down the hammer. And if there's any disagreements, allow both sides to state their reasoning and make it a goal to come to a mutual understanding. At the end of it all, proper communication, listening and respect will really go a long way in boosting morale and improving overall workplace environment and culture.
