The most memorable lift-off of any Sci-fi spacecraft ever. Love the sound and the visuals.

Is anyone else absolutely in love with the engine sound effects?

Even after 57 YEARS (yea-I'm OLD) that lift off still sends chills down my spine...loved the show as a kid, still love it as an old dude! BEST Space Ship sound effects

Nothing else to this day compares to that lift off!, the sound and visuals of a man made saucer using antigravity propulsion, glowing as it powers up! No one dared to use the idea of flying saucer tech and design in any modern tv show or movie .
They Always relied on some form of rocket propulsion... this show was Bold and daring in its premise

I like how you colorized this scene. I remember it in black and white.

As a kid, about 10 years old, this was just the most amazing and exciting thing on television, not just because of the fantastic sets and ( initially) the stories, for me, it was imagining myself as being one of the kids, in a SAUCER!!!, going into those sliding glass tunes, flying through space, the dangers and adventures of surviving on an alien world, tooling around in that wonderful family rv, so many drawings trying to create adventures of my own, this was the best, most exciting show for young impressionable minds

Even today I’d still rate it the best launch scene I’ve ever seen…

The engine sounds are my absolute all time favorite sound effect! And I wish they had done that glow effect more often. It is sooo Cool!!

Man what a great liftoff sequence. The colors really stand out. June Lockhart is what incredibly beautiful woman and she looks absolutely amazing here in color.

I always love the background music and the starting of the Jupiter 2 atomic engines during liftoff!

I am so glad that this did not have Dr. Smith's screaming for the first episode pilot during lift off. This was wonderfully edited.

The music and the sound effects were literally a starring character in the show.

Being shipwrecked on an alien planet for most of the season, engines dead and then start of the new season as they finally prepare to lift off, hearing those powerful atomic engines slowly start to riv up and finally come to life again. As a kid this was truly awesome. My favorite sound effect.

Awesome! I remember it like it was that liftoff and being memorized. You've made it so much more dramatic with the music etc. Excellent job!

I not only love the the sound of the space craft but the music as well, it has the perfect crescendo of anticipation and danger.

This looks amazing. The combination of a high-definition print with the added professional colorization reveals how much work went into the design of the ship's interior. The sound effects were incredible. This program had some of the best incidental music EVER.

The b&w version offers more dramatic atmosphere, bringing out that beautiful diffused lighting effect. It evokes Fritz Lang's Metropolis a little bit. I really love the look of those early shows; of what I like to call historical tv - breakthroughs in terms of the era. LOS, for ex., was just a couple of years after NASA's first manned orbit. Both early in the years of American tv and the space program.

Great video David! Excellent work! I really enjoyed this. I was a 60s kid and this really brings back wonderful memories.

I would argue that the shows real significance was more with its cultural influence than just entertainment value, it would've been the first time many of us kids heard about certain technologies and theories about technologies, which we immediately looked up in our Encyclopedia set.
