I loved this series. However there is no denying that there is no way the inside shots of the ship fit the outside prop shots. Going by inside set work the ship would have too be almost 3x the size shown just too fit the crew and the Pod's. Great show none the less.

This was reused footage from the unaired pilot episode "No place to Hide"....The Gemini 12 spaceship in that episode was a single deck ship with no airlock and no porthole window next to the hatch door.

When the series went into production, the ship was renamed to the Jupiter 2 and the ship's appearance was modified.

In real life, what we saw here was the "full scale" mockup of the Jupiter 2 in its earliest form, built up on a soundstage. The moveable mockup with full top and bottom was later used in first season "The Derelict" and "Island in the Sky" and third season "Visit to a Hostile Planet". All other LIS episodes showing exterior of crashed Jupiter 2 were a different soundstage set with a front/top half J2 that had no roof or dome.

The unaired pilot was colorized and included as a bonus feature on season 1 of the new Netflix lost in Space series as a bonus item to get fans of the new show to watch the original shw.

Netflix should have shown episode 1 The Reluctant Stowaway as a bonus to introduce the fans to the new series. Would have made sense being that Dr. Smith and the Robot were added. Eventhough In Netflix's series Dr. Smith wasn't trapped on board the Jupiter 2 before liftoff and the Robot was from another civilization that Will Robinson met. That's remnants of War of The Robots.

They didn't have enough funds to make the Jupiter 2 bigger than the size it is because the j2. Is just too darn small to house all that equipment, chariot , etc. This show is so good I overlook those things since I understand why. I still once in a while watch episodes at my age 60 because I grew up with lost in space.

Take a close look inside the set mockup of the Jupiter 2 and you will see the Astrogator fully extended into the glass dome on the roof of the ship. The Astrogator is mounted on a hydraulic column that can raise it from the central pedestal on the flight deck. I don't recall seeing this function when the Jupiter 2 was in flight.

I always wondered considering just how small the made the Jupiter..where did that Chariot come from. It sure didn't fit in that tiny thing.

Yeah I know budget constraints. Still ya gotta wonder what they were thinking.
