Black mold is really scary — here's what to look out for

Imagine waking up one morning, just a week after moving into your new house in a new country, and being only a shadow of the person you were a week ago - unable to think straight and slowly losing your eyesight.

Our interest in environments specifically actually got started last year after Miriam and I moved to Portugal together, and our house almost killed me.

A bit dramatic, sure, but it could have.

That’s what can happen when your landlord is either trying to hide the fact that their house is infested with black mold, or they just don’t have any idea on how harmful black mold actually is.

Fortunately for us we escaped that house within 10 days, but it still took both of us months to get better. Miriam actually went through similar symptoms but a couple of weeks later.

As it turns out I was very sensitive to that mold there, and it’s actually good that I was — kind of like a canary on the coal mine. Because who knows how bad things would have gotten if we stayed there for longer.

I’m from Portugal and yes here almost every house has a mold problem that’s why everyone owns a dehumidifier so mold isn’t able to grow

I have been experiencing dizziness since February 9, 2023. Doctors can't figure out what the problem is. However, I did go to an allergist lady and the tests said I have an allergy to mold. I just took some pictures of one of the vents, and I see this dark brown furry looking material around it. This may be the problem, but my family doesn't believe me. It's either that or the computers I work on. Blue light glasses didn't work. I'm wearing them now.

Yes, true. Very dangerous. I found breathing became labored and needed my focus. I asked God what was going on with my body, (I was convinced I’d already lost and found my mind) and as I looked up to ask, I realized it was all over in the house that I had lived in for 2 years. It still took a couple months to move out. We threw out almost 95% of our belongings because they were porous. Not easy at all, nothing about black mold is. Take care of yourself. ❤

HEAVILY spray all walls, surfaces with CLEANING vinegar (6% or stronger) and let it sit for hours.
Another solution is spray hydrogen peroxide (3% is normal strength; 12% is available at my local Home Depot hardware store)

I have what looks like Black mold on my bedroom windows. I am renting a room. First couple weeks I moved in got very sick. Very sick a handful of times in the past year and a half. Last year I love my hearing in One ear. And now currently going through losing my voice. It’s been gone for about 2 and a half weeks. Are these symptoms of Black mold? Please someone help!
