The prisons would be full of slumlords if the laws were written to protect tenants.

Every old rental house I've lived in in my midwestern town has made me seriously ill, gasping for breath every night, aching limbs, chronic congestion. Having spent the better part of 10 years sick, I am weak and tired. Intermittently homeless, scared of leases, tired of sleeping with the windows open, too broke for nicer places (that could still make me sick). It's a dark cycle. This is a hidden evil lurking on city streets. Never thought I'd grow up to be at war with housing and indoor air quality

We were sick for 2 years due to a previously water damaged building. 250x the safe level of Chaetomium was found. Super nasty stuff, 2 years off work, had to throw everything we owned away, life changing and ZERO help from the medical community.

Bravo Doctor! Thank you. Mold toxicity is brutal and absolutely destroys your health. Thank you for covering such an important topic. Some days there are no words to explain the cascade of relentless symptoms. They alter your life due to their severity.

It would be nice if attorneys would represent tenants against criminal slumlords.

I’m trying to heal from this right now and it almost ruined my life. I’m still struggling to find a house that does not affect me, apartment complexes in the US don’t care at all, and I’m unemployed because it has been so debilitating

So far Turmeric roots tea and garlic are the best treatments from any mold symptoms, also spray the place daily with tea tree oil ( after removing the mold)

Mold is in ALL down feather products! It cannot be cleaned off. Washing down pillows/comforters only makes it worse. I had an industrial hygienist test my entire house & the down was OFF THE CHART! There was never any smell or anything

I was living in a place that had mold and it almost cost me my life. It depleted my health so much. I felt like I had fibromyalgia and i severely lost weight. My immune system was compromised to the point I had a bacterial infection that gave me pneumonia. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. They drained puss out my lungs first by slicing through my back in between my ribs. Then stuck a drain tube in my back through my ribs, hurt like hell, no anesthesia. Then a 4 hour surgery to suck the puss from around my lungs and peel the dried up puss that formed around my lungs.
I told the doctors about the mold condition and the illness i dealt with for two months prior to the pneumonia but it seemed like they just brushed it off.
I had no idea the place I was in was so bad. It wasn't until my son inspected the place I was staying and couldn't understand how i lasted so long in there.
Maybe some of us, our body reacts differently than others to rid ourselves of mold. Idk, but I did notice I was given some antibiotic fungal medicine by mouth during the last few days in the hospital.
Stay safe and GOD bless everyone.

We believe our college age son exhibited mold toxicity after his college town/ dorm experienced a catastrophic flood the year prior. He came home at the end of Fall semester with a chronic bronchial/asthmatic cough that did not go away until he was living at home for 2 weeks. The cough was so chronic it also caused him constant back pain.

Naturally the college denies there is mold in the dorms. But I am fully expecting a repeat of his medical problems this year even in a different dorm that was also flooded.

So glad this topic will be a series. I'd like to know if treatment is necessary or if it can resolve on its own and how long it takes once you leave a moldy environment. What are all the symptoms and where can I find a Dr. in my area who is capable of testing and treating mold? Conventional Drs don't test or recognize the issue. I got sick 7 months ago after a roof leak wasn't fixed promptly, and seem to have permanent sinus congestion, sore throat, and hoarse voice. I suspect mold, but don't know the proper steps to take and who to see to confirm and treat it.

I had a plant which i put coffee grounds in as a fertilizer. The plant was super overwatered and it started to grow mold on top for 2 months. It was horrendous, i had heart palpitations and sooo many other symptoms, especially at night. My heart woke me up multiple times at night and i didn't know why. Now i know, because the plant was right above my bed, 1 meter above me. I breathed all the mycotoxins in during the night and this caused my nightly palpitations and anxiety attacks. At the doctors office my liver enzymes were hightened and i didnt know why. Now I know!! Omg, i hope nobody has to go through this, it was horrible!! Be safe!!

Very important topic. It gave me skin rashes, respiratory issues and anxiety attacks. The medical community is useless when it comes to mold. Best help comes from alternative health or do your on research. I used combination of essential oils (or you can buy "essential oil thieves") to help "control" mold that was circulating thru my air vents and for around certain areas. Or spray hydrogen peroxide at least 6% (normal drug or supermarket store bought is 3%) directly on the mold, but be very careful not to inhale or get the 6% h.p. on your skin. Also, I bought several air cleaners with reusable filter that you periodically vacuum to clean, instead of having to buy expensive new filters all the time. It can be a nightmare to fix when circulation from your air vents, if you have carpet and it spread all over your furniture/clothing/ pet food and their water bowl (try to keep away from direct air flow). Thank you doctor for covering this topic.

See this is the problem. It is as if landlords are allowed to passively commit murder. People can die from asthma.

Actually suspect to be having mold problems at my current residence. Hadn't even thought of the water system as a culprit. Very interested in your follow up testing video.
