Most people that do not like Okra, it is because of the slime. We have always cooked it this way. Instead of standing and stirring, I cook it on low and the slime evaporates before it gets to the burning point, maybe flipping it one time halfway through. If company is coming, I saute red bell peppers in it for show. I usually eat it with white rice, a smoked sausage, or a couple slices of bacon. I planted my own okra for the first time this year. I never got tired of eating it. My dad always planted Okra, I miss him now. Thank you for sharing this.

In the summertime, my mom used to make a soup with okra, tomatoes and onion, seasoned with salt & pepper. She made cornbread to eat with it. Mom was born & raised in Mississippi.

Cooked this okra like you said to do today- it was delicious threw some tomatoes in there and made okra and tomato dish. First time cooking it for me I'm 72 and trying to learn how to cook some... Folks at church are bringing in fresh vegetables... thanks again John

My grandma was 1/2 Cherokee from NC and she would cook okra different from any recipe I’ve seen. She would cut it into disks and same with zucchini into a pot with canned stewed tomatoes. She just simmered it in a pot as a side dish when it was in season.

The south East Asian way is to add mashed garlic, onions, chili and dried shrimps and season with some sugar and salt and if eaten with rice, it will be heavenly!

My grandma, Lillian Clarke, loved okra from *Church's Chicken* . She'd leave it on the stove and eat it through out the day. I was an adult when I gained a definite love for okra.

A BIG THANK YOU for this recipe, and great explanation on how to cook it. Got some fresh okra yesterday, and saw you. Today I cooked it up, opened a can of baked beans, diced tomatoes, mixed them together, and heated them up. Then last minute before serving up I used the okra on top as like a garnish🤗🤗!

Oh I air fried mine tonight for the first time and it had a similar effect. They came out delicious. I used to hate okra because my mom used to make it slimy and LOVED it that way. First time I had it roasted/fried I loved it!

Thanks. This was great. The person at our community supported agriculture pickup said she eats it raw. So, I tried that. It was very good. I will try this. Thanks again.

It goes against my upbringing, but I was looking for a recipe that did not involve breading and frying. Can't wait to try. We have an okra crop for the first time in a few years.

I bought a bunch of okra for a recipe that I didn't feel like making after I bought the okra but I needed to cook it before it went bad. Didn't wanna coat it, flour it, corn meal it, egg it, etc as in all the youtube vids ...then I saw your vid..I just made it your way....washed, cut, seasoned and threw in a pan for about 5 minutes...OMG..just PERFECT....delish, firm to the bite, not too oily, ( I don't like using " slime" when referring to food..lol). Thanks for keeping it simple!!!

I have a very similar recipe. After cutting my okra, I toss it with ~ 1t of olive oil, then toss it with a spice blend of s & p, garlic powder, cumin, Aleppo pepper flakes (or any other hot seasoning of your choice), and finely rubbed dried oregano (ingredients to taste). Then, cook a shown, though maybe at a little lower heat. I also grill whole okra with the same seasoning.
