Andrew Huberman is a neuroscientist at Stanford University who runs the Huberman Lab, which studies how the brain functions, how it changes through experiences, and how to repair the brain after injury or disease. In his career, Andrew has made many important contributions to the fields of brain development, brain plasticity, and neural regeneration, and repair.

He’s received numerous awards and recognitions for his research and publications, including the McKnight Foundation Neuroscience Scholar Award, the Biomedical Scholar Award from the Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Cogan Award for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

In addition to being a tenured professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford University, Dr. Andrew is a brilliant neuroscientist and teacher — he excellently explains complicated concepts in a way that everyday people can understand them and use neuroscience to improve their lives!

Andrew’s goal is to understand how the brain allows us to sense, evaluate, and respond to the world around us. He’s actively working on methods to re-wire and repair eye-to-brain connections for people who suffer from blinding diseases, as well as investigating emotions and how they drive human behavior.

Dr. Andrew is clearly an expert on how the human brain works — I can’t wait for him to share his wisdom with you today!

In 1991 when I was pregnant with my son. I watched an Oprah Winfrey episode in which an Asian woman had three children that were all prodigys. This lady wrote a book explaining how to raise a genius. For the life of me I cannot remember the title. I purchaed the book and began to practice the instructions. One of the points she empasized the most was that a baby's brain was a sponge. Constantly learning, while the neurons in the brain are making connections. Including while the baby is in the womb. She said to sleep with classical music on all night. Talk to your baby in the womb. Talk to them in a normal tone, not baby talk. Read to your belly throught the pregnacy. (His father thought I was crazy) Once the baby is born continue with the classical music, the reading, and to talk to your child as much as possible. She said that just because the baby cannot speak it doesn't mean they don't understand or cannot learn what you teach. Once the baby is about two months old, engage the baby with eye hand cordination this would connect the neurons that develop math skills. I would swing a blanket over his face and I could see him following it with eyes. By three months he would grab it. By this time he would hold his own bottle.
Well I continued to engage my son in this fashion.
Now the amazing out come. My son could read big words before he could talk.
Around 14 months when we read a magazine I would asked him to point out a certain word. He always pointed correctly. I bought toys that require eye hand cordination.
At age 3, he new all the States and its Capitals. Anything that I would teach him, he master. By the time he got to kindergarden, the school wanted to skip him to first grade, However the book said to never let your child skip grades because emotionally they are not prepared. That its better to be the smartest in his class than avarege in a higher grade. He was placed in a gifted program. The last day of elementry he recieved 23 out 25 awards. Boy by the tenth award parents were giving me dirty looks.
By age 12 he was taking engerneering classes at local University. By the tme he got to high school they ran out of math subjects to give him.
Today at almost age 30 he has 5 degress including a master in mathematic and
aeronautics. He has a pilot license. BS in computer science.
He thought himself piano and guitar and plays really well.
Those brain connections can be diliberately manipulated with external stimuli and directed to enahnce learning. I've searched for that book to no avail.
Now after thirty years doctors and scientist are finally dicusssing this matter.
I feel that my son is proof that it works.

All jokes aside, on second watching: This is by far the most informative and helpful motivational media I have ever encountered of any description over the past 50 years. Including books.

My brain 🧠 loves interviews like this first thing in the am. I listen to these when I'm in the shower and on the way to work. I watch both of these guys every week. I just LOVE Dr. Huberman and geek right out listening to his whole show and writing down notes like a mad woman.

Awesome! One of my favourite episodes so far. "The idea of abundance is not that you have so much that you don’t need more, but that there’s enough out there and plenty for everybody" Thank you

I've been a yoga teacher for 30 years and have taught all types of "prana yama" basically breath work... and I always teach more ecstatic fuller inhale s to get the energy way up and slower longer exhales to calm the energy way down. he's right on in many aspects... and Wim Hoff will take you to places you need to go, but have resisted. I can now hold my breath out for 3 minutes effortlessly... I love your show Lewis!

In my yoga training we were told that it's essentially about the nervous system. Yoga heals the whole body but the main wiring is the nervous system it's the electrics right. And through breath and movement we can gain conscious control over it. It's mind body and spirit when practiced consistently. And if someone who's been chronically stressed for years like victims of abuse etc I can testify that pranayama is the most effective way to heal the body. If you go and do a one to one breath work session it's like doing ten years of therapy and it makes you look ten years younger. It rocks!!!

I am a master of my mind and body. I rule my being each day. I focus on my mind, my body, and how they both interact with the outside world, and when I notice something unbalanced, I have the discipline to address my breathing and stance, to adjust my perspective and take control of what is mine to control.

Thanks, Lewis, I have been studying for years, hoping that my dyslexia would disappear like a bad habit, goal setting every week taking one day to celebrate and appreciate what I have done is important to stay on course. when I get upset for not completing what I set out to do I forgive myself and do positive affirmations, to motivate myself. I have learned a lot from watching your channel.

Dr Andrew Huberman is such a positive voice in this crazy world. I have dealt with anxiety most of my life, triggered by a childhood trauma. I just started watching his videos for about a week, and I can say he has changed my life! Great video! Thank you for the info! Bless you both

I will admit I honestly developed severe depression and anxiety, and isolated myself from others. The only reason I got better was forcing myself to exercise. Started running a mile everyday and lifting at the local gym, after a few weeks I began feeling better and 6 months later my issues dimished completely to the point where I was able to get back to normal living. Tackle one thing at a time, do the things you least want to do, and sweat out the stress and negativity. You’ll be a lot healthier and feel a lot better trust me
