We all know that feedback and advice aren't exactly the most popular things in the world. People might come to you asking for help, but then they turn around and ignore your advice.

And do you know why?

Because advice or feedback can feel like a gut punch to their sense of self-efficacy.

But here's the thing, it's all about HOW you deliver that feedback.

If you want to deliver feedback that sticks and has an impact, start with offering valuation.

Validate some element of their behaviour - their enthusiasm, their grit, their patience or their creativity.

This way, they'll feel like you're on their side.

Then, you frame things from the perspective of growth.

“You know what would make you even more effective? What would take you to the next level?"

Because here's the truth - people want to grow.

And when you approach feedback with the intention of wanting to see someone succeed (rather than just pointing out their faults), it's a total game changer.

As the OG Dale Carnegie said, “Give them a fine reputation to live up to, and they will make prodigious efforts rather than see you disillusioned."

When you receive feedback, are you more likely to follow-through when it’s framed around growth? I’d love to hear from you. 👇

100% agree! Even when people ask for advice, most of the time they are hoping that you’ll tell them to do what they already planned on doing.

Rather than doing it for manipulating, one must genuinely have it within him to see someone grow!

100% true. How you deliver feedback plays a huge part in determining how the message is received

This need to cater to how people will interpret your feedback is crazy.

I am just happy when I get advice/ feedback, I am humble enough to decide if it’s helpful or not.

Needed this reminder. It is strange to relearn these concepts which should be considered so elementary things to be taught (think 1st grade) courtesy, kindness and respect. say please and thank you. Thank YOU for sharing this 😊

There are so many reasons for a person to feel this way. If the person really trusts who they are talking to, they will listen.

This is very true. giving positive validation helps the other person feels you are on their side and they will listen to all you have to say.

It works. That's what I do, and they don't want to feel like they are stupid. Good advice ❤

I approve that she is veryyy very correct.. i literally don't like feedbacks and hates advice specially if they r free..
I don't like people compliment me cause of some childhood trauma i feel like they are not true but only complimenting me out of pity!
But i really feel if someone use this approach to advice me i would consider it!

Very wise and constructive! People are different. Yes, if someone is too harsh or blunt your shields can go up. When I ask for advice, I really want something positive to move into.

So true. You advice some people by telling them the truth and they will never ask you for advice again or talk to you again. What a life
