Shouldn’t have to notify to allow trick plays still

No more surprise onside kicks pretty much defeats the purpose of an onside kick SMH

It was all good until they messed up the onside kick rule. Any comeback that requires an onside kick will boost ratings. That one makes no sense.

In 2069 the game will be played in giant hamster balls.

I'm really tired of these rule changes

Thats like telling the other team you're doing a flea flicker

I would’ve just moved the kicker back further

I think they'll just keep kicking in the end zone and letting the team have it at the 30 yard line.

If this rule was in place in 2009 the Saints would not have a SuperBowl win right now

With EVERY SINGLE kick off a touch back i'm happy they finally addressed it. If it doesnt work try something else but as a football fan with a partial brain its fucking boring knowing every kick off is a touch back.

I honestly thought that's why they called it Special Teams. Remember the great kick-off returners: Josh Cribs, Devin Hester, Donte Hall, Deion Sanders, Gayle Sayers, etc...
It took talent and skills to be a K.O.R.
The game is watered down now. But not taking anything away from the NFL Player's. It takes guts to put your body through that kind of punishment.
They are doing everything to keep the offensive side of the ball safe, but what about the defensive side.

The kicker takes out his 7 iron and hopes to hit the green. The returner actually catches the ball, and returns it. Nothing was worse than last year's 22% return rate. A team would score, & you had a 5 minute break to take a dump. This kickoff isn't as exciting as the good old days, but there was still too many touchbacks. The fair catch was unbearable. I think this rule will change the physical composition of the returner. Before a kick returner was a burner that could cut at speed. With this rule, I think that you are going to want more of a thicker Deebo bang through contact arm tackle breaker. It will bring more value to the running back position.

This is much better. The fact they were kicking at all after a score was ridiculous. When 80 percent of the kicks were never touched and the other 20 percent barely made it to the 20 yard line, the entire idea of a kickoff was a waste of time. This brings a return man back into play. And for those who hate the idea because change is scary and they get confused as to why, you dont need to catch up. Just watch for a season. If it doesn't help the game, then bitch about it.

The onside kick rule change is probably the dumbest rule in NFL. I cant believe that was agreed to...actually, I cant believe it was even brought to the table or up for discussion.

The kickoff part is ok with me now after seeing it, but to notify the other team of any trick plays like onside kick is stupid

Best explanation I have heard.thank you.

I see it happening sort of like baseball where they don’t even have to pitch to intentional walk. The team won’t even have to kick if they don’t want to and just give it to them at the 35.

I just saw this while watching a preseason game, I was like, “what the hell was that?” The NFL is continuing to lose viewers, numerous rule changes, Taylor Swift involvement with Travis Kelce, etc.

I get the sense we’ll be seeing a lot of squibs getting bounced through the landing zone just out of bounds into the endzone for 20 yard line touch backs.

A similar system worked well in the XFL. Incentivized returns and reduced injuries from full-speed collisions. It might take a couple of games to get used to, but it should be a boon for the league going forward.
