If nothing else, make the ball live in five. Five yards that is on onsides kicks so kicking team has a chance. Live in five will make it more fair.

Check out the Schiano Proposal. Instead of a kickoff, give the "kicking" team the ball on the 40 with 4th down and 15. Most teams would punt--like a kick off but safer. But there's also the option to go for it, ala the onside kick. But instead of hoping for a lucky bounce on the kick, actual skill would be needed.

No blocking until the ball is caught? What are the guys supposed to do when they are forced that close to each other from the kick? Backpedal for 10 seconds?

They could just flood the field with a foot of water or mud to slow everything down.

8th grade football, on 4th down the team has to option to either go for the first down, or have the other team get the ball at there own 25 yard line.

So this gives the receiving team a MAJOR advantage for onside kicks. I like the rule change, but it's going to take away from the final second drama of all games.

I hate the offside kick rules. It should be harder to gain possession. The ball should have to travel at least 20 yards.
Rules that allow teams to win football games based on a lucky bounce of a ball undermine the greatness of the game.
I also hate rules that allow teams to gain too much advantage on one single play. Interceptions and fumbles
should be dead at the spot the ball changes hands. Allowing a team to return a fumble or interception 90+ yards puts
wayyy too much emphasis on one play. No other sport allows 1 or 2 big plays to so completely alter the outcome of a game.
It's not like baseball gives the defense 3 runs for turning a triple play or 2 runs for a double play.
A homerun is only 1 run regardless of how far the ball is hit unless there are men on base.

If you want to watch a sport that allows 1 or 2 lucky plays to determine winners and losers just become a soccer fan.
There is no rhyme or reason to that game, which is why most Americans find it annoying.

what does it matter? every team kicks it through the end zone anyways.

Let me get this straight: according to the New Kickoff (and onside kick) rules, the ball still only has to travel at least 10 yards (and not 15) before kicking team can recover it to gain possetion, right? What does no blocking zone for 1st 15 yards mean?

Thank you for not even trying to explain the new fair catch on kickoffs rule.

Hey Owners, you want to talk about your bottom line. Remove the kickoff completely and watch the NFL fall apart with half empty seats. It will happen. You are changing the game of football to something foreign, , be CAREFUL !!!!
