WELCOME!!! To this full in-depth tour of my friends Huub's tiny sailboat. S/V "Limonada" is a 1971 Alberg 30. It's a slooped rigged, full keel monohull sailboat that's acquired a ton of character over the last half century! As well, this is Huub's humble home upon the sea.

Three years ago, Huub went to Guatemala, found this boat that was supposedly ready to sail. He fell in love with it a bit quickly. And then found out after he paid $18,000, it was more ready to sink than sail. But he did not quit!

After no shortage of blood, sweat & tears. His sheer grit & determination won through. Eventually he made this sailboat just ready enough to sail all the way out of Guatemala, to Jamaica, and throughout the Eastern Caribbean. Even though he has no life raft or emergency equipment. A testament to his conviction to become a true sailor. Something most could never do.

This is a very humble sailboat. Mainly due to it's size I don't think most people could live in it. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing Huub to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank.

Hello & welcome! I'm Daniel aka "Adventureman Dan." I've been living on the edge, from one adventure to another for the past nine years. Stating in Central California with my first GoPro, through SoCal, Baja, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Alaska and throughout the whole USA. But for the past five years on my sailboat "Adventureborne" I'm open to unlimited possibilities of where I can go, and what I can do!

It’s definitely a solid hull, with the right maintenance it will last another 25-30 years. Great for long weekends or week long trips

$18K for a boat this solid isn't crazy at all. Maybe you could have negotiated the price down some, but if it came re-powered with that diesel (I'm pretty sure they all originally came with Atomic 4's) and the other gear you've shown us, I'd say that you have done well.

Spending $200K for a new Beneteau 30, now *that's* crazy. And ask yourself which boat you'd rather be in if you get caught out in a gale.

Good lord, Dan is rather brutal in his assessment of the boat. I’d like him to roast mine.

I dreamt of sailing the world since I was 10 years old, finally I was ready to start searching for a boat then suddenly my dreams seemly ended, I fractured 3 vertebrae. Then I saw a home built sailboat a James Wharram design, suddenly dreams where full force with ideas of building one but then I ended up purchasing a 26 Pahi ! Dream on people, never give up !

I love the boat, the interview and the character who owns it. His boat looks like it's lived in and a very practical setup. Great stuff

Subbed after watching Huub’s video of your boat. He only gave you a score of 90% so these additional subscribers like me should make up the missing 10% 🤣

my grandfather had an 79 Alberg 30. Great boat. When I was looking for a liveaboard it was an option but I ended up opting for an 83 C&C 32. Great boat heels hard in heavy wind so allot of fun to sail!

that is a nice boat. However, what I do not like about most 30 ft. sailboat interiors is that too much space is given to the salon and not enough to the head and hanging locker (or other storage) A live-aboard needs a more spacious head, and, perhaps, a larger galley. It does not need six foot berths in the salon.
