WELCOME!!! To this full in-depth tour of my beautiful 1984 Beneteau Idylle 11.5m or 38' long sloop rigged monohull sailboat. My humble home upon the sea.

Three years ago, I went up and down the East coast of the USA looking for a sailboat to buy. With a considerable amount of help and advice from my sailing mentor Don. I purchased this boat in Cape Cod Massachusetts for $23,000.00. At that time the boat was on the hard with it's mast down in an old boatyard miles and miles from the ocean. It was hard to imagine that it would be the boat for me. But after about a month of working with the seller and his broker. We splashed the boat, stepped the mast and sea trialed her. After that, I was confident the sailboat was what I was looking for.

But after several major improvements and upgrades I've made during major refits. The boats value is now far greater than when I started. As is it's practical usability can speaks for itself through the adventures I've had and showcase on my social media pages "Adventureman Dan".

From this boat I love to explore and go on adventures wherever my anchor rests. The boats name perfectly explains what it represents:

-Adventure: (An unusual and exciting or daring experience. Or to engage in daring or risky activity.)

-Borne: (Carried or transported by the thing specified.)

-Adventureborne = "What brings me to the adventure."

This is a humble sailboat. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing me to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank.

On top of that, my main expense out here in the Bahamas would be food. But nearly a decade of spearfishing around the world has given me the capability to consistently harvest food from around my sailboat through freedive spearfishing. Allowing me to further extend my time at sea. While feasting and sharing it's bounties with my fellow sailors.

In the future I plan to make more improvements and upgrades to this boat. Stay tuned to see what comes next!

What do you think about my off grid minimalistic sailboat? What would you add? What would you change?

Dan, you have turned a modest classic sailboat into your "palace" & you show that ingenuity & design trump deeper pockets. Have a whale of adventure, cheerio.

You've done a great job getting her set up, and I really like how there's a massive cover over the cockpit and the swim platform. Having said that, one is not need to own a massive boat in order to enjoy a life of luxury, and this, my friend, is luxury. Also, your editing station and chair are quite impressive.

This video is really inspiring, it's so interesting to see that you can change things in a sailboat to make living more comfortable e.g. the cushions in the cockpit.
It really makes me more motivated to pursue a similar lifestyle. Thank you.

PS: Please disregard the clown picture, I mean this in a genuine way.

I can appreciate all the hard work and time it takes to make the wood on a boat, look like a basketball court! My hats off to you sir! You have a beauty. Nice work on electricity.

I loved this. I am extremely new to sailing but have committed and I'm really excited about it. This video gave me a lot of insight of what to look for when boat shopping, and building my ocean home. I love the efficiency of space and energy.

This is an amazing sailboat! I've been looking and haven't found one that would be great for just one person, but this is perfect and the price is unreal! I have now been searching for a sailboat that one person can handle on their own, and I have found some beautiful 1984 Beneteau Idylle for great prices, so glad I stumbled on your video!!

Several years ago I owned a Kirie Elite 37 designed by Ron Holland. Watching your video I couldn't help but realize how similar the two boats are in design and layout. Although I never confirmed it, I believe the Kirie was built in the Beneteau factory in France. So much of the interior woodwork is the same as are the hatches and portlights. The engine compartment access is idential; my Kirie had a Yanmar but it wasn't the original engine. The Kirie was shoal draft with a hydraulic centerboard. She sailed like a dream. Although it wasn't for sale, one day an acquaintance asked how much I wanted for it and after hearing my price (the same that I had paid for it ten years earlier), he purchased it. I immediately became serious regarding a 1996 Beneteau 42s7 that was for sale and purchased it. After eleven years I'm still sailing the 42 and love it. Thanks for the tour. By the way, if you search my name here on YouTube you'll find videos containing the Kirie.
