Climate activists from Just Stop Oil were cheered by schoolchildren after glueing themselves to a 200-year-old painting in London's National Gallery on Monday. It was the latest in a number of protests across the UK by the British environmentalist group

As an oldie, I have to admire these young people, they have hurt no one, they have not caused long term or expensive damage (hopefully). Throughout history, be it for equality, womens votes and in most if not all areas of social and economic improvement protest has been vital. Just to sit back and gently grumble does nearly nothing.

I'm absolutely fine with these sort of protests, in reality they're not destroying anything which would really sully their argument, they're not disrupting the lives of thousands of people - they're making a principled stand. Will it change anything? Probably not but I'm sure it will at least create some more debate on the issue

I'm an art graduate, most of them are copies they wouldn't target ones they knew they could get in millions of debt in. I know how much those frames cost before anyone get in here whining, absolutely 'The Last Supper', confirmed to be a copy you just need to repaint the frame or replace it when you get their hands off. There was a kid who threw a cake at the Mona Lisa few weeks back, it has protective cover they could just wipe it off. They didn't destroy art at all, they just made a point. Maybe that's why people wonder 'where is the security?!' because it's not the real deal relax.

I support this sort of protest. It is somewhere reactionary people can’t run them over. They covered the painting to protect it. And they’re definitely getting noticed.

It’d be nice if governments all over the world stopped giving us a reason to protest to save the planet for future generations though.

Don't know if it's famous in the US but the Haywein is a very famous picture in the UK and was a semi-political jab at the industrialisation of the nation, that this idyllic way of life will be lost to industry in it's ever expanding at the time fashion. It has been used in anti-nuclear protests before as well.
